My CEO (who works closely with the Navy's strategy and future designs teams) once told me that he envisioned a future "aircraft carrier" that would basically be nothing more than an automatized launch and return platform for drones. Would have a net or some other setup so the drones could return, fly in, and get automatically reattached to the "vessel" for refueling. Could be controlled by tons of pilots and naval captains hundreds or thousands of miles away with xbox controllers.

wouldn't be surprised if we have a fleet of Drone ships to perform just that, as well as to conduct a myriad of other missions such as surface warfare, anti-ship, anti-submarine, and anti-ballistic missile missions.

I'm waiting for the first submarine carrier. Leaves San Diego, dives, can surface anywhere in the world and launch its drones.

Gonna be a different world in a few decades.
