Fuel Filter Question

I don't mean to sound dense... But here goes...

I have had a fuel filter in the shop for months and I decided I would get it up on ramps today and change it. From all the DIYs I have seen... Looks like an easy 30 minute swap.

I get the car up on ramps and don't see an access hatch similar to what I've seen on the DIYs and YouTube videos. I go to the Bentley manual and the first thing it says is that 325i models with automatic transmission and the M56 engine have a lifetime filter that is integral to the fuel tank assembly and that to replace would necessitate replacement of the entire fuel assembly! WTF? I always thought I had a 2.5 M54 engine.

I have a 2002 325Xi with an auto (steptronic) trans.

Any ideas?

You have an M54, not M56. There are no M56 motors in Xi's.

The filter is located under the driver's seat. Remove the plastic shield and it's behind a metal shield. Hit the nut that holds on the metal shield with penetrating fluid before trying to remove it.

I would buy six new hose clamps and some high pressure fuel line to do the job right.

Sorry, my bad, I looked as so many BMWs when I was looking for my new car they all kinda got jumbled in there, I did see many M56s Touring, but not in the Xi.
