Oddly enough, I'd say I spent more on body work, wheels, and suspension back in the day than I have on seats, brakes, stereo and engine work... building up a reputation, attending lots of shows, and pumping out coverage leads to solid discounts from quality vendors.

But, getting to the point that vendors were willing to provide nice discounts wasn't cheap.

And you're right.. this was never an investment but rather a hobby. It started as "hey there are so many 3 series, I'd like to personalize mine", then went to car meets "hey that guy did.....", then you start getting to the point that people take notice so I took it to shows... one show became lots of shows which became "hey I'd like to be able to compete at these big shows" so you mod much more.. now it's "hey i want to get on the cover of a magazine"... once there, I'll be satisfied with the build. Never looked to build a SEMA car but rather something I could be proud of and display for others to hopefully like (certainly there are some who hate style choices or mods or whatever).

But it's worth noting that this has been a decade long project... whenever asked about "why didn't you buy an m", I explain that the loan I would have taken to pay the additional cost for an M in 2004 (bought mine used for 28 instead of say 50 for an M)... that 22k plus interest over the years likely would have been somewhat on par with most of the mods I put on my vehicle... so a modded 328 or a stock m3 and a little cash.. personally, I'd take the turtle

Great story. I also liked how you described it on the Modbargains website about how Fast & Furious inspired you, like all of us, and how that series is over a decade long, like our cars, and it really serves a timeline for us to relate back to those times. And they say cars are just machines...
Congratulations, Chase. Going to see the midnight premier of Fast 6 tonight myself.

Any tuning done between these runs??? If they were back to back, just by looking at the plots, it seems that the fuel pump is getting tired. You can see the afr getting leaner and leaner progressively with each run. If they were done back to back w/out tuning, I think that fuel pump got hot and started loosing pressure and or flow.

Good point. We were considering swapping in an m3 fuel pump during the build but decided to just hold off till needed... Perhaps we're already there. I'm dropping off the car Sunday and they're going to start investigating the mechanical shortcoming... Then tuning a week from today aiming at 360 WHP

I really can not tell from the pictures, are you blow through or draw through maf setup??? I would also look into clocking the maf. Depending on where bends in the piping are, clocking the maf would solve lots of tuning nightmares. Really important if you are blow through, can make a difference on a draw through setup also.

I have to say this is one of the most remarkable builds that has been brought to life. I have seen this car go through each stage and transform to truly the ultimate driving machine. This is project has came a long way and glad to work with Chase and making this a reality.

As for the Software issues we are working with Chase and going to have the tune calibrated to spec. and make good use of those tires.

I'll have to run this by RRT when I drop off the car. Definitely worth looking into

Thanks Viral. Your team has been awesome all along the way and I hope we can just get the tune in sync soon.. I have the itch to take the car out this weekend but know it's best to baby it until we get the AFR figured out.

Service has been fine to date. They shipped out the product within a week or two of the order and have been very responsive with follow up questions. We're putting Zak to the test this week as he will be remote tuning the car over a half dozen or so dyno runs.

At that point, we'll see how it all stands.

I was promised a t shirt that never arrived with the kit though.. So I'll have to follow up with viral on that one

Thanks buddy. I'd definitely suggest going through Active if not for their support and help with tuning. With RRT's help, the car will sit on the dyno this week for a tuning session and, if it's anything like my buddy jai's experience, we should see an additional 30-50 whp.... especially given it's running VERY lean right now.

We shall see. RRT had the car last week looking over mechanical issues to ensure that everything looks fine in the engine bay. Assuming that came back with thumbs up, we'll be tuning this week and I'll give some dyno charts

So a little update.

- Car has been misfiring in cylinders 1, 2, and 3. Misfires were uncommon and were popping up between 1800-2500 rpms under light load. Car runs fine in higher rpms though a little leaner than we'd like.

Changed out :
-- 02 sensors
-- All coil packs

Car continued misfiring and now did it MUCH more common.. though still doing so in the same RPM area.

Drove up to Ocean City, MD this weekend for the show... car drove fine though CES light was on. Car is back in the shop and they are going to continue to try and figure out what is going wrong. Perhaps the tune? Perhaps there is a wire that is frayed or acting up... rather confused at this point
