Bringing Ebola Virus to the United States

Anyone have thoughts on this? Bringing 2 Americans infected with Ebola to be treated back here in the US?

It's been in the news and has stirred debate. Curious as to what e46 OT thinks.

Cliffs:

Quote:
-Two Americans with Ebola are being transported to Atlanta hospital

-Emory University facility has a rarely used isolation unit for those with infectious diseases

-Idea of bringing Ebola into the United States has frightened some, but not at Emory

-Doctor says he's been congratulated and that staff is looking forward to the cases

Ebola is very deadly but not very contagious so it doesn't bother me at all. They're taking appropriate precautions to prevent spreading it and the two infected are more likely to survive with medical care here.

Ehh, it's not like Ebola is deadly or contagious or difficult to differentiate from other diseases/viruses/bacterial infections!

Some of the mouth breathers on twitter think it's a nefarious plot by Obama to further the "downfall" of the United States.

Ebola is only contagious when symptomatic, and it takes close intimate exposure to transmit, usually through blood or stool. It's not airborne like in Outbreak.

Nothing is absolutely risk-free. But a quality US hospital, esp one like Emory, is well equipped to prevent transmission.

Besides, people are acting like it's impossible that any Ebola carriers have already flown here without us knowing it. At least with these two, we know and appropriate precautions can be taken.

I'm not a fan...

Why can't we fly them to some Air Force Base on some Island in the middle of no-where and treat them there? I'd rather take some expert doctors to some island, versus bring them to some major city hospital.

Emory is a piece of **** hospital in the hood and is only good at taking care of gun shot wounds.
This is how the walking dead started

While I don't understand the logic behind bringing these two Americans back here, I'm not worried.....yet! The moment somebody else becomes infected and the disease catches footing here, I'm quarantining myself.

They're American citizens and would receive better care in the US than in Africa.

I wonder who's paying for this, their health insurance company? That'll be one heck of a bill.

I understand sunflowers and rainbows on paper, but it's still risky to me. Why NOW, after all of these years of us studying Ebola, did they decide to make a decision like this? With all of the help we send there, the facility is more than equipped to handle cases like this. What is the true impetus for this decision? There's surely more to this than PR spin "better care in the U.S." statements. What do I know though??!! I'm just Joe Citizen.
