MotoTec 24v Mini Quad (ATV) v3

Thinking about getting one of these MotoTec 24v Mini Quad v3 as a Christmas present for my son.

This is one of the better videos on these things, but in all fairness the ones in this video are 500 watt 36v models and can go 15 mph vs the pictured 350 watt 24v model that goes 10 mph max.

how old is your son?

Me and my brother rode 250cc three-wheelers until about 10 years old. Then he switched to a blaster and I got a artic cat.

I started riding a Blaster at 13. Only 200cc, but with a 6SP and weighed nothing. Many fun times with it.

three wheelers were death traps. The Honda 250x was an animal though.

By X-Mas he'll be 3.2 years old & is tall for his age. He has already mastered his 1.5 mph 6v ATV & you can tell he's ready to take the next step. I've considered the $200 to $300 dollar Power Wheels & Peg Perego but they are totally plastic in design & I'm not a fan of that. The 24v Mini Quad is built like an adult ATV with its welded together steel frame, if it ever brakes I can weld it back together myself. Not to mention that fact that he'll be able to grown into it over a longer period of time. Almost forgot, the 24v mini quad has 2 parental settings for speed: 5 mph & 10 mph, the child cannot access these speed settings. So in the beginning it would be set to 5 mph.

Is he too young for a youth 50cc ATV? I'm not sure if those have limiters too but that would definitely be something to grow into.

I definitely considered that option but my home is located in the suburbs with neighbors on both sides of me. Also my backyard is only about 1/2 acre of riding space.

If I thought no one would complain, I'd get a 50cc mini atv without any thought. I figure it would be just a matter of time before someone placed a call to the popo to complain.

complain about what? riding on your own property? what are the cops going to do? half acre is plenty for a 50cc.

+1. And if you're not dead set on a four wheeler, the Honda XR50 is one of the most solid bikes ever built, you cannot kill them. If someone wants to complain, let them, you aren't breaking the law.

Being an owner of a still working Very Old Honda Mini Trail Z50A with folding handle bars, I know what you guys mean.

While out to costco/dinner tonight, my wife stated that she wouldn't be comfortable trying to operate the 50cc version when I'm not at home since she has No Clue how they work. Certainly she could be taught, but she said she'd sill not be comfortable. So it will be an electric version on this one.

Either way he's going to have a blast, the gas one will also teach him basic maintenance/repairs. I learned a lot fixing gokarts/minibikes/quads etc when I was a kid.

I can't find a website for MoTec anywhere. Anyway, at 350W you're under 0.5hp, splurge for the 500W version, it would put you at ~2/3hp

The Motec 24v Mini Quad (Ebay) & a different brand called Go Bowen both sell the Exact same Chinese built unit. So search Go Bowen & you'll get a Website & how they assemble them from out of the box.

I actually would buy the 500W 36v unit if I could find the darn thing anywhere, but the whole planet seems to be completely out of stock on them.

Here's the Go Bowen site.

http://www.go-bowen.com/Models.html

The Sahara or Baja is the 36v / 500w model, but seems unavailable.
