seems to me that most (MOST) cars from the dealer come stock black trim pieces. chrome or painted is always (always meaning most times) extra

that might be how/why im partial to chrome. just conditioned that way i guess...

although tallskinnymatt, your ride looks pretty sick with blacked out kidneys. even with chrome window trim it looks sick..seeing as i almost have the same car (same color at least, close enough wheels), im somewhat tempted to go black (cue the "never coming back" jokes. har har, how original...)

lol

Eh.

Your examples were pretty bad. Of course everyone would prefer the car on the left in the picture you provided. Not because of the black kidneys, though, but rather because the car on the right was, purely and simply, an absolute abomination.

Haha thanks! I hated my black grills before I had my mtech bumper... but love it now. I've also had black vinyl in my garage for about 2 years now for the exterior trim... but for some reason love the chrome on a silver car. haha. I agree that chrome is classy, but black is "sporty". Which is why all BMW performance grills are black and not chrome. But chrome looks great regardless. Everybody has their own taste!

This is wrong. I've seen tons of M3's that look terrible and I dislike. His car is just beautiful and clean!

Black or chrome. They just have to match the window trim. I have black on my E36, which has black window trim. I have the chrome on my E46, which has chrome window trim.

FWIW, chicks dig the chrome over black 9 times out of 10, I can tell you that much from a few conversations i've had.

Anything not conveying a boy racer look will work for me.

blacked out grills vs. stock

IMO I think it all depends on the theme of the car, window trim and all. I went with black grills because it matches my smoked theme.

The last picture says it best. A bit of chrome can look very good.

I bet if BMW made these grills matte black from the factory, a lot of the newer crowd would swap in aftermarket chrome based on it not being standard equipment. "Im custamyzin mah whip dawg, itz maad tite!"

I have the black grilles on both my cars. I love them. I do agree that certain colors/models don't take well to it though. For me chrome is tacky.

I stuck with chrome grills on my e46. I like the contrast of the chrome grill with the black paints. Same reason I went with clear corners, and stuck to stock color when I had my wheels done.

I'm thinking about blacking out my grill. Then again my window trim is black and my car is bright red (hellrot) with black leather interior, but I'd rather spend the money on other things.
