Sunroof making weird noises

Been fairly hot recently, sunroof making weird noises when put in tilt position. Have not tried to retract it all the way back (afraid if something is wrong that it will get stuck while in open position).

I know that the sunroofs have quite a lot of problems with e46 model. I'm hoping that its just dry and needs some good lithium lube. Im going to get a cloth, try to clean up the debris and then apply the lube.

Do you guys remove the sunroof glass to do this? (its about 6 torx screws) Not sure if i want to go through that much trouble - but if it helps I'll go ahead and do that. It's in tilt position currently.

What kind of noise is it making?

One common problem is the "FRAME SLIDING-LIFTING ROOF" part no 1 (54137134536, look at the parts diagram below) breaks. You need to lubricate inside of the frame where the cable that is driven by the motor is moving the sun roof.

Do you guys actually remove the sunroof glass to do the lubrication? Seems easier to do this, but dont want to remove if unnecessary. Looks easy to take off but im afraid adjusting it to be flush will be time consuming when putting it back on.
