Would you buy a handgun that was on display?

So I placed an order for a Glock G27, but they were on backorder.

So, my options were to wait 2-8 weeks or take the one on display.

I opted to wait (with the option of taking the display if I just can't wait any longer).

Would anyone here take the display -- My question is more geared in the safety sense. I know we all want something NEW/UNUSED. But would you feel any less safe owning a gun that was used/on-display?

Note: I haven't gotten my Glock G27 and I'm already looking for another purchase!

Re: Would you buy a handgun that was on display?

Would not hesitate. Do it all the time. Have many used guns too. A thorough examination is all one would need to do on a Glock. All they would have done is have people handle it. Dry firing is mot an issue with a Glock.

+1. Have them throw in an extra mag or 2 and call it a day.

You get 3 mags as it is with a glock.

All the gun stores on LI give you 3 mags. Then again we always pay the higher end of the spectrum for pricing.

I will buy any new gun on display, but I will inspect the shit out of it first. With handguns, it's not a big deal since they pretty rugged. The only time it's really a huge deal is with rifles to make sure the crown isn't jacked up, or any gun that has wood furniture, to make sure it's not hacked up, scratched or cracked.

When I sold guns, I used to get asked all the time by customers "how much off if I buy the display model?" My response was always "umm...nothing. It's new."
Don't try to haggle with a new gun just because it's on display, especially in this climate where guns are still on the low end of supply and demand is still high. Many shops may only have one gun available of that make and model, so they have to display it.
Also, trying to cut deals on new guns just because it's on display makes you look like a cheapskate.

Why is that even a problem?

Never bought a used gun?

I can honestly say I have NEVER bought a new gun that wasent the "display". I've never asked for somebody to find one in the back room or order me one because it was the "display" model. I've never even heard of any FFL's calling a gun a "display" model except for very few pre production models.

Hell, I paid $23k for a m16 that besdies 3 small grainy photos of the lower was pretty much sight un seen. I had 0 knowlege of what uppers were coming with it until they arrived. Countless sight unseen surplus guns and so many used guns that I cant even remember.

In my years of experiance I have come to a conclusion. If your worried about petty stuff like "wearing a gun out" then you dont have the time or money to actually do it

In otherwords, your being obsessive compulsive... a pistol is a tool and should only be a safe queen if its rare, old, sentimental, or collectable. I cant stand the guys that show up at the range with a glock hat, shirt, range bag.....and procede to handle it like its a rare fragile object. They ususally clean them or atleast wipe them down with oil before the days done.

Buy the display model, actually USE it.... and after years of service retire it to range duty when you find something that fits you better.

I think it also depends on the gun shop.

At a Cabelas or Gander Mountain where they've got them on racks just teathered to the wall by trigger locks for some dipshit to do anything to 'em....sure - ask for a boxed one.

At a mom & pop shop where they're behind a long counter in racks...buy it right there.

If the gun shop has relative "control" over the gun, I'd buy it without any issues. If they don't and it's just racked in the open - inspect the shit out of it and/or prefer a boxed if available.

JMHO...

But why? There's nothing you can do to a display gun that's more abusive than being fired.

For handguns, it's not too big of a deal. It's a bigger issue with higher grade guns like O/U Shotguns and the like. I remember the good old days when Gander Mtn used to keep their high grade guns in locked display cases. That was great.

Glocks normally come with 2 mags at $39.99 for 10 round is sad.

MidwayUSA had 33 rounders for $34.99 yesterday.
