Battery - maintenance free my ass

Just a couple bits of info you might find useful.

The original BMW battery can be topped up. I pulled mine out and found one of the cells was very low, while all of them were a little low. Add distilled water and it might last another few years. Mine is date-stamped 50th week 2002.

I discovered this after buying a new one (too late!). The replacement I bought is a Varta H3. It's bigger than the original but still fits in a E46 sedan and gives 100Ah over the original 80Ah. So don't trust the cross-reference guides.

My BMW battery lasted eight years, I wish I'd known this or I could have maybe saved it!

I spent DAYS researching which battery was the correct one for my car and ended up buying one slightly less powerful. EVERYTHING said it was the OE replacement next to a genuine.

Too small. Doesn't fit. Had to put a block of wood either side and on top to hold the damn thing in.

My Ride: E46 M3 Turbo
I just ordered a great battery for my BMW. It's 2kg. Weight removal tick.

My original battery lasted 8 years, and only died as we put it in a car that had a dead battery to start it and forgot about it, then jump started it and it never held charge again.
