No cannibalizing, odd numbers are 4 doors, even numbers are two doors, otherwise chassis are the same. Bmw started this plan way back with the Z4, it's just taking this long to finally get finished.

That said, the four door six series and the 5 series are oddly redundant, don't know why they did that.

I still don't understand why a 2 series or 4 series really "needs" to exist. Having a coupe/saloon 3 series has worked out fine of BMW for decades. I guess it i just BMW trying to copy Audi. Up next will be a BMW hatchback.

BMW 228i sounds bad.
