BMW 330 ci SPORT Steering pulling hard , FCAB??

hi guys,

newbie so bare with me, have researched this great forum and others for my answers but need a specific recent reply. I have just bought a 2001 low mileage FSH 330 ci sport, drives fantastic other than at least once a journey it will pull to the left hard, very occasionally it will pull to the right. It is normally corrected by jolting the wheel to the right but sometimes its so strong the whole steering wheel will rotate to the left by itself.

It does not tend to be after braking, sometimes its when i go over potholes or ramps, does not do it all the time but regularly enough for me to notice. Have tried running it on 32psi and 30 psi on the fronts and checked tire wear and nothing unusual, gonna try 34/35psi next.

My question is should i bother with wheel alignment or just go and get front control arm bushes checked out, how much is it likely to cost to replace? Can i inspect it myself without a pit and is it safe to drive long distance?

Previous owner had it MOT'ed and serviced within 500 miles of me buying it and neither of these indicated the problem so i'm a bit lost. Also anyone know the rough cost of either fcab or wheel alignment and how long can i go without forking out ? will i be safe for a long distance trip?

thanks lots

U can get Merle hd flab kits for less than 100 including the llolipops. Cheaper if u just get the bushings but the y'all have to press them in somehow. For fcabs....grab ure wheels with both hands. Try to move them in a turn like motion....and a back and forth motion....if thereis play...u may need bushings.

If your FCABS are worn you usually notice pull when braking. Doesn't mean that it's not what's causing your problems. I'd get it checked before throwing money at it. Using a pry bar you're going to have to check for play in the suspension components. Take it to a good indy if you don't know what to look for. All this work is easily DIYable and the parts are cheap.

It's best to replace everything that's worn at once. If you align the car with worn components, when you replace those components the alignment will be off again.

cheers guys didnt realise this was mainly an american forum and there i am chatting about MOt's ha these cars are very common here so should not be a problem finding an indy who knows what they are talking about. Does not seem to happen when im braking but the amount of pull makes me think it could not just be wheel alignment , have since watched a good video on youtube were the guy pulls the jack up to the wheel and turns it clockwise and the wheel moves, also another guy says that they wheel will move about 2 inches upon braking. Can see many parts on ebay so i might just buy the ball joints, arms everything and get them all changed
cheers for the info
