Someone made an error in judgment and members of the GOP are holding said person accountable. We cannot change what happened but we can at least acknowledged it was addressed appropriately.

Yeah, the GOP, after plenty of practice, has stepped forward quickly to denounce his statements, that much is good.

The trouble is, the GOP has had way too much opportunity of late in dealing with similarly crude, crass and demeaning statements from way too many of its members of late.

Do recall all the damage done during the 2012 elections up and down the GOP slate by any number of self-defeating statements, from Romney's own "47%" statement (yeah, let's insult and write off half the electorate) to the various rape and pregnancy blunders further down ticket. The GOP basically took an election cycle that by most measure ought to have been their's to lose and, well, promptly proceed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory and loose it badly.

I guess the big question is have they learned, and are applying, the lessons from that electoral debacle? Statements like this, and others, might give one pause. Another question might be why such odious sentiments keep seeing the light of day out of the GOP? One is left that this reflects some rather unctuous strains of thought and views permeating too much of the GOP despite desperate efforts to present a more sanitized, civilized and modern public face.

GOP, from my memory, has always been quick to denounce and distance themselves. Remember that guy in upstate NY that just had a shirtless picture? He resigned immediately. Now compare that to Weiner-gate, where they circled the wagons, sent out Jon Stewart, blamed Andrew Breitbart and called it a hoax...

This conversation makes me wonder how many of you have ever attended a city or county council meeting. Some of the things that get said in open meetings are amazing to me. Local officials are quite often ignorant about all kinds of things and say stupid stuff routinely.

Yeah, that makes sense. A lot of those people aren't the polished career politicians we're used to seeing on TV. Oddly, most of us complain about polished career politicians.

One does not need to sacrifice being professional in order to remain genuine.
