Hey guys in need of some help.
replacing head gasket... I am trying to get my motor to TDC on my m52tub25 and am stuck. I have the intake manifold off, spark plugs removed, banjo fitting removed, all drive belt off, and I am trying to rotate the motor clockwise to TDC but it seems to be stuck. Will not budge is there something I am missing. maybe I skipped a step.

The m52, if its like all other bmw engines is an interference engine, which means that when the valves are open, if the piston tries to come up to TDC, it will hit the valves. This is more than likely the problem you're having. I've never been inside an m52, but all the other BMW motors have wrench flats on the cams to turn them manually. Try turning the cams a bit and then try to spin the crank over to TDC

This man has a point. Make sure you follow his advice, also, please tell me that you did not remove the timing chain before putting the motor to TDC and now you're trying to turn it over.

If you did that^ Youll never time those cams right so just tow it to a shop that has experience timing dual vanos when you're at that stage.

Car wasn't in neutral. I have replaced the head gasket, set the timing right, and put the intake on. Now my oil separator is spewing oil all over the place when I crank the car so I will likely buy all the hoses and redo the manifold and oil separator hoses. Oil may even be coming out of the dipstick since its such a large amount.

I've don't that myself. Luckily I could get to it after the manifold was back on.
