A quik pole on e46 top locks parts autoCAD 3d

Good day all.
I think i have exhausted all options to locate replacement parts for the tops as i know alot of ppl have had that cringe in your stomach once finding out its a plastic block that broke and now you have to pay hundreds for a full assembly for this weak part...
Getting to the point, the people who know this part, do you think anyone else would be interested in buying these replacement parts instead if a costly repair? I am thinking of doing a autoCAD 3d print of these weak links and have them made of metal. What i am asking is would you think it would be a good market to supply to enthusiast willing to rebuild there locks to be more efficient.
I will be making a set for myself and updating this thread with info.

This is an example of the broke part in the mechanism, forcing you to buy the whole this for 4-600 bucks.

It would break if you forgot something on the roof and tried opening it or the gear in the drive motor is gone (which i will be looking into remaking as well) is faulty and you have to push up to help open the top. These i have found to the start of alot of disappointments with having a convertible on a bmw

I am not advertising to sell anything just to make it clear, just seeing if anyone thinks it would be a good idea if i try and make metal parts instead of the plastic junk

Locally in cayman islands there isn't a lot of these models but a few have and i have been looking around and any lock that i find is broken or i have to order it. Not a common problem but seems to be a problem.

I'm not quite sure how the tops in our verts work, I don't know what part you are reffering to. I just know that they are an expensive item to fix when they do break. Anything that can be done to circumvent the high cost of replacement parts with an another option is fine by me.

I've seen a couple posts indicating the plastic cracking is superficial and there is metal core to that piece... yet looking at it I doubt that's true.

If mine broke where the crack is in the pic I would try gluing the hell out of it first, and try a bent hose clamp to keep it all together.

A metal piece would be awesome... yet at what cost?

This is true, the cost of one would be great to know. But if i cant get one made, like you said epoxy the hell out of it and tun one or 2 bolts thru it as temp. Until i can afford a new lock

looking at that cracked plastic,.that would choke me...& to find ut how much it'd be,..it'd choke me further. I'd be tempted to take it out, glue the livin' crap outta it with clamps squeezed to the nines, & then, after 24hrs, taking off the clamps & strategically duct taping it with black duct tape, just for good measure. (And,...smile whilst knowing I aint giving BMW $400-600 for that to be fixed.)

Just what exactly happens when opening/closing your top with that cracked piece? Explain symptoms to help members in case they have problems like you have & cant figure out what it is.

Thx.

The symptoms are the top needs alil push to get it open or close because these are parts get alot of stress. Not soppose to break but the titanic sank so go figure with plastic parts in a stressful application

Also it will over work the drive motor, in the center if both locks and strip the gears inside, so guess what you now have another 3-400 dollar part to buy. Now if ur a diy'er your good, if you go to a stealership your effed. Your looking at a minimum 1500 job. If they want to replace parts. Normally they try and get you to buy a complete too..... Yaaaa

Sure - if I needed one, it fit and worked well, and it was cheaper than BMW.

Duct tape wouldn't be a good idea. A hose clamp could be bent around the plastic and tightened to prevent the plastic from flexing in the future.

The pic attached is another problem from the locks breaking and binding. Over stress on the motor.

One question would be can that assembly even be taken apart to replace bad parts?

I am rebuilding mine right now but thats what i was asking, would it make sense to have these parts duplicated for other ppl incurring this problem, i have had an unimaginable headache with this i can only imagine other ppl as well. It can but bmw's way is spend the money on oem assemblies. Id rather not!!

Broken lock, another pic. This will throw a tension code i think 100 or 104, i will have to check the cvm codes again later. Basically this connects to the tension arm to assist the hydro sys in getting the roof up it initial start and the end push down to locking position closed fully. Like i said i have no idea why bmw wouldn't put these as metal parts!! They are ticking time bombs waiting to make you roof fail.
