The adapter is considered a silencer by the ATF. Perfectly legal if you go through the process

ACTUALLY... the oil filter itself is the registered silencer, it meets the definition of a tube.

When you buy one pre made it comes with 1 oil filter that just happins to have a serial number.

What they dont tell you is that the tube is irreplaceable and type 2 sot has to "repair" it once the filter is wore out. NO new cans, somebody has to cut the old one open, replace the paper and reweld.

F1 filters are supposed to be the same way, most people dont know any better and use different filters all the time. By the word of the law they are commiting felonies.

If you need a good .308 can let me know, we have a hand full of nice YHM cans coming in right now.

Me neither. Always though the adapter was the registered part.

This is pretty sweet, I wonder if these loads would be enough to cycle my bolt?

No, it's not going to cycle your bolt. Not that load.

You may be able make a subsonic load work but it's going to take a silencer for back pressure of course... and your going to have to start high with hand loads and work down until you find the sweet spot for the bullet that you use.
It takes more reloading knowledge than I have. IMHO not worth the effort when there are .300 blackout uppers and .308 bolt guns.

Thats what i figured, I'm going to hold out till I start a 700 build before investing in a .308 suppressor.

Side note: I was planing to stop by your store this weekend as we were planing a trip that way but my wife broke her leg falling off a mechanical bull last week (not her proudest moment lol) and we're stuck at home for awhile

Im thinking of sending the following letter to the ATF Technology Branch out of curiosity.

Quote:
To Whom It May Concern,

I would like to inquire about the legality of building a bullet trap with suppression capabilities. For safety reasons, I'm in need to test fire some of my firearms after repairs or modifications. I live in a rural area where discharging a firearm is legal but I would like to suppress the report of the firearm out of courtesy to my neighbors. I had the idea of making a device that would allow me to place the barrel inside a chamber that has been packed with material designed to reduce noise. In no way will the device be able to, designed to, or ever be attached to a firearm. If a device with suppression capabilities is not attached to a firearm does it fall under NFA guidelines?

Thank you for your time,
What do you think? I kinda figure its going to be a "no" after reading the ATF's technical definition of a suppressor. It would be neat to follow the NFA guide lines and make such a device that has serial numbers and any other required items. It would me multi cal and allow you to test fire at your house...

It takes them 9 months just to stamp your paperwork. Something that takes actual thought and research? You'll get an answer in time for them to come confiscate your illegal suppressor property from your kids.

Send the letter. I'd be interested to read the opinion.

To bad you cant come by, were getting some really big toys in. Once your ready for a silencer let me know and I can find a good can for you. We can F3 it to your dealer in NC.

I just set this up today.
