Really unfortunate. From someone who grew up with 2 Rottweilers and a German Shepherd at one point, the dogs are extremely loyal and protective of their owners.

Police have no legal duty to protect anyone, they can't be held liable for their failure to do so and the reality is they simply don't have the physical ability to. Upheld by Supreme Court many times

I don't know anyone in my personal circle that relies on police for anything other than car accident report taking or scaring away solicitors. The purpose of law enforcement has been lost. It's not for prevention of crime, never was.
