This was my thinking, on top of the fact that it gets great gas mileage. I'm now a full-time student so being frugal in that aspect is important to me.

Although I lust after a 4-door ZHP, the average price of said model is close to a 2006 330i with sport package, so if I were to get another used BMW any time soon, it would a difficult choice between a ZHP and a E90 body style, even though I generally don't like the E90's interior aesthetics; it's just the plain fact that the E90 is a newer design with more room (important for my girlfriend and her kids).

Why Did You Choose an E46?

Worked on BMWs for a long time. Loved the way they drove, but they were always way out of my price range. When I stopped working on them they kind of slipped out of my mind. About 6 months ago my Honda was dying so I started looking for a new car. I hadn't realized how cheap e46's were selling for now... Kind of crazy that I can pick up a car that once sold for $37k new for $5k twelve years later, and still have it be in superb condition!

Sadly I didn't shop around for too long bcuz my car was on its way out. So even though I picked up a 2 owner VERY well maintained e46, I settled for an automatic and I'm unhappy with it. So I'm currently looking at a few manual e46's and working on a trade.

= minivan in near future. (Not that it's a bad thing, just a "thing". You can always get another "ultimate driving machine" 20 years from now.)

There's nothing worse than driving a minivan . My mother has the new Honda Odyssey and although it's the best on the market, it's still too big and heavy. I will never leave the 3 series.

Why Did You Choose an E46?

Good deal came up, that I couldn't pass up, little did I know I was going to fall in love with everything about it, like just the other day I was looking at it and noticed the door handles flow together with the same design that's on the side indicators. Just little things that make it for me.

2001.

Graduated college / got job. Was thirsting for a new car. Wanted a coupe and RWD for ~$30k.

There wasn't jack **** on the market that fit that description. The S2000 had just come out, and there was a waiting list. There was no such thing as the G35 or 350Z. Mustang was still a fox-bodied POS. Corvette was too expensive. I was (and still am) a straight-six wh()re. There was really no other choice.

I went to BMW / Porsche dealer to drive a used Boxster. When I saw my 325Ci sitting on the showroom floor, I had to have it. Didn't even drive the Boxster. Bought it on the spot for $29,100. I couldn't afford one penny more, or I would have got the 330Ci.

Oddly, 12 years later and I still love my car. I can't think of anything I would prefer (for reasonable money). So I keep it.

Because it's prettier than the E36.

I didn't. It chose me.
The car was about to be sold to an ignorant guy who didn't care about it.
I was passing by, it looked at me in a sad way and I had to intervene.
That was 7 years ago. This week, another careless guy just killed that E46 on the freeway. This time I couldn't do anything to save it.

I remember seeing an E46 when it was unveiled in late 1998 it was in SM megamall in manila (philippines) I remember telling my dad that i wil have one one day (fast forward 12 years not only i had 1 but 2)
as a 4 year old, the car was looked awesome to me
it was not too flashy nor too simple
but anyways
the stance of it was just awesome

Talking The feel of the wheel will seal the deal

Why? The test drive!

I was coming from a 2006 Honda Civic EX Coupe 5MT. I'd always wanted a BMW but was worried about reliability and maintenance cost. I was _this_ close to pulling the trigger on a G35 manual.

Then I found this guy selling a fully loaded 2005 330xi 6MT for peanuts. I wanted RWD but figured, what the heck, lets try it out.

I was instantly intoxicated by the duality of the machine. In 5th and 6th, it was a very relaxed cruiser that I could whisper and still be heard. Yet, drop it to 3rd or 2nd, and it became a roaring sports sedan. Never before had I driven a car with a split personality! Instantly hooked for life!

My reasons:

Engine
Chasis
Quality

Here in Argentina is a really expensive car, so I waited the years and depreciation haha.

I have always loved the E-46 coupes, from the moment I saw my first one in person.
It was in the parking lot of Kroger's. The design, the stance, the sleek beauty. It looked fast just sitting still. lol

With staggered wheels, they can't be beat...I love driving mine in sport mode. Makes my commute to work
such a joy I look forward to it. Mine has the winter, sport and premium packages. So, it gives me a rush.

oo ooo my turn.

My co worker was talking up her E34 5 series for a few years but she was heart broken because one day it wouldn't start and she left it to rot in her driveway. She asked if I wanted it, so I had a tow truck driver bring it over. I poured gas in its empty tank, changed a few fuses, and put in a new battery. It started right up. I was impressed with how solid it felt for such an old car, how quiet it was, and how it rode with authority down the highway (I was used to Japanese cars up to this point). I also absolutely fell in love with the inline 6 engine. The only thing keeping me from complete happiness was the automatic transmission. It was awful. I also wanted something smaller and a bit more toss able in the corners, so a 3 series seemed logical.

I started looking for a newer BMW with an I6, manual transmission, and 4 doors. I looked at 325/328s, I looked at E90s (was told by my partner that they were too expensive), I settled on 330 E46s, and then a very BMW centric friend told me to go for the ZHP. I looked for a few months and I found one that matched the requirements so I bought it. Been loving it ever since. The engine and steering are wonderful.
