My Ride: 320i SE AUTO
Hi! New member requiring tyres info/help please

Hi everyone

I just joined and have just bought an '03 320i SE AUTO and am loving it so far. However, it has two new but I branded tyres on the back, one Pirelli P6000 in ok condition on the front along with a Bridgestone in reasonable condition. I hadn't noticed the difference and don't want to think that the dealer swapped them after I put a deposit down and just want to get on and enjoy it.

My problem is I have severe steering wobble at 70+ and a knocking on the steering too at this speed, not at lower speed though. Is this a balancing thing, tracking, steering and should I invest now in new tyres and if so what do you recommend? Tyres are 205/55 R16 91V from memory. I'm a firm believer in good tyres and I did get a rear slip at only 50mph on a tight ish corner and traction kicked in. It only does this so far on a right bend? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance. Darren

Welcome Darren, Wobble will normally be balancing and possibly traction too! As for the knocking at 70+ this could be Steering Rack issue or Suspension Arm ball joint. When sat behing the wheel at a stand still turn you wheels, the knock would still be there under full lock both sides. Now thing to remember that i have found with these cars its normally opposite side to what you think if its the Suspension Arm, for instance my right suspension arm went creating the same syptoms you have, but heard it knocking on the left and that was fine, also a way to tell is put the car on a flat surface and walk away and look if leaning then again the Suspension arm (possibly). Tightish bend at 50 i doubt is your tyres, if you get my meaning
