Thank you, and that looks great except for the grain. I can fix the grain on iphoto though.

try to shoot everything sharp... you can always soften them up through editing if you wish to.

what is hard is the reverse because when you sharpen a soft image, then you get that grain.

Yea that one turned out to be slightly out of focus :/ Think a 50mm 1.8 would get it even sharper though?

Fixed lenses will most often be better, so my knee jerk reaction is yes.

all I ever used was fixed lenses... never owned a zoom.

had to carry a case with multiple lenses and/or multiple bodies with different lenses attached and ready to go, but that was by choice.

Can you answer a dumb question for me? Can you damage anything in the camera by taking off the lens and letting sunlight go into the camera body where the lens attaches?

I don't think so... But sun does have a way of making plastic parts brittle over time.

Better to error on the side of caution.

I would worry more about dust though. ( dust is the enemy of cameras)

Picture of what you're referring to...?

Basically once when I was borrowing someones camera, I was switching lenses with the camera body facing up and they freaked out and had me face it sideways into the shade. So from then on I've always thought that direct sunlight into the camera body wasn't good for the camera for some reason?

Lower or don't use blur around the edges of the pics. If you want some good background blur for now use aperture mode and focus on the object you want to pop.

Btw, I think you should go with a 35mm 1.8g, not the 50mm. 50mm is already zoomed in a good amount. Set your stock lens to 35 and then to 50 and try taking pics using that. I found it easier with the 35 to capture more but I still have to step back a lot if I want to cover a bigger area (something that a 50 will make you go back an insane distance)

Thanks for the comments, and that's a good idea. I'll test out with the zoom lens like you said today.

I dont feel comfortable speaking on that. Just keep doing what feels right and keep trying to improve. I used to get bashed all the time in the photography thread but if i listened and did everything they said I wouldn't have my own style. I understand. I really like your umbrella picture, and a lot of your portraits. The polar bear picture makes me sad though. They are my favorite animal.

Thanks! I took that bear picture for Vice Magazine, they sent me to Northern Canada. We weren't allowed to use it in the Article but It could be a cover some day.
