I hear ya, OP. I've just started hitting the gym with 2 other fellas early in the morning before work and I'm already getting lazy. I would have to get up at 5:45am to get ready and be at the gym around 6:10. Workout for about an hour and a half, get home to shower and eat then drive 45 minutes to work. I do this gym thing 4 days a week and I've been slacking the past couple of days, it's just too early for my liking. I guess if you're going to work out super early then the key is to be consistent and not miss a workout day, just dog it out. Because if you get lazy and miss 1 or 2 days in a row it's going to have a chain reaction and you'd wanna keep missing more days just like what I'm doing right now. I'm trying to start fresh again this Monday, just downloaded some workout motivational music/speech to get me motivated so we'll see how that goes.

Re: Anyone get up early and hit the gym before work? Tips to get going?

May try it tomorrow, I just think knowing myself Tuesday has a better chance of success. My legs are killing me right now though I got stuck in the stairwell of a building downtown and had to climb down 40 flights of stairs and then back up the equivalent of 5 to get back to my car in the garage. My legs were so tired I almost couldn't operate the clutch! Great workout though.....

Anyone get up early and hit the gym before work? Tips to get going?

It's all about reprogramming your body from what it's used to. Wake up, drink some coffee, energy drink, or however you like your caffeine, and a small breakfast. I personally don't like food in my stomach while I workout so I simply have a banana and a protein bar before workouts. The human body thrives on routine. It wants to do the same thing day in and day out. You just gotta decide what routine that is.

the other key is to wake up and turn on as many bright lights as possible. the brain responds to light/dark stimuli and makes regular cycles out of it (i.e. we wake up when the sun rises and to to bed in the dark). I've found that even on days when I wake up and feel like complete sh!t, a few minutes with all the lights turned on + espresso = out the door in 10 minutes.

The only issue I have with going to the gym early is the workout itself is never as good compared to after a full day of nutrition - but i still do it anyways. in the gym at 3:30, out by 4:45.

I was lucky when I was doing the gym before work routine a few years ago. I had a fuck buddy who happened to be a fitness trainer and she liked to go at 5am so I got free training, and sex after (when I didn't have to be at work by 8:30).

If the am, what the hell are you doing in the gym in the middle of the night? Jezuz, I have trouble getting out of bed at 06:00

Nice! I made it this morning as well, although it was MUCH harder to get out of bed this morning and I came close to talking myself out of it. Planning on going tomorrow too.

I wake up at 5:30am to be out the door by 6:15am to get to work at 6:45am. Going to the gym in the morning for me would mean waking up at 4:30am

I go to the gym after work. It's definitely more crowded, but it's a nice way to decompress after a chaotic work day. Then off to the grocery store so I have stuff to cook for dinner.
