The tool you're thinking of is a 36mm 6 point socket (3/8" drive), once the head is removed from the housing this tool isn't going to help. The bowl shaped one is for the E9X, and doesn't work with the M54 oil filter housing. Since the caps trashed might as well use the screwdriver and hammer to break the seal then spin it off by hand.

We've had too many customers have exactly this happen, this is why we've come up with the ECS billet aluminum oil filter cap housing (LINK).
