ZHP NA Build - Search for Expensive Power

I'm finally starting this thread so others can see what NA mods do from the start on these cars. Its been done before but there is a lot of information to wade through AND it doesn't always seem to be done mod by mod.

My car is an 03 ZHP with 155k on it now. It's now a garage queen since I picked up a wagon. Which is why i can really tear into it now.

My last compression test shows my engine is still strong.

(Excuse my messy garage atm )

The goodies going in

Top Speed Headers ($188) that are ceramic coated professionally ($250) (https://www.performancecoatings.com/)

Dinan Long Tube Intake ($200) Completely unused that looks to have been in a box since 2005.

Dinan Throttle Body ($250)

Headers are going in View from under the car.

Quick look at how stock headers vs TopSpeed headers look side by side.

Dyno Run with just headers Installed (sorry for the poor camera placement)

Look how similar the day was on these pulls

2/27/18 Update

The Dinan long tube intake and throttle body numbers are in.

So something interesting happened when I installed the long tube intake. That 6k drop in power disappeared.

This is a solo SS of the dyno so you can see the curve

Here is the graph comparing the run with just headers and with the long tube intake. You can see I picked up 3-4 WTQ in torque early on and 2-5 WHP on the high end. Great gains and the induction sound is amazing.

AFR graph comparing the run with just headers and with the long tube intake

Now with the Dinan Throttle Body Installed.

Low end gained 3-5WHP/3-4WTQ and the high end was 6-9WHP/4-5WTQ

AFR graph with Dinan Throttle Body Installed

Compare of all runs

+27WHP/+21WTQ gains with just the 3 mods so far.

RunFile 03 - Stock
RunFile 12 - Addition of just headers
RunFile 16 - Headers + Dinan Long tube Intake
RunFile 22 - Headers + Dinan Long tube Intake + Dinan Throttle Body

Need new tires on 2006 E46 325Ci Coupe.......

Hey guys,
I need to replace all 4 tires on my 06 325Ci Coupe.
I was thinking of sticking with the OEM 17" wheels ans putting on Michelin Super Sports 225/45ZR17's.

Whatta ya think ???

Thanks in advance

The title shows tires but the thread is for dyno?

Anyway even though the days were similar, do we know none of the settings or parameters were changed by the operator in between the days? Are all variables accounted for? Does look like you got gains for the headers (as you should have) but it would've been nice if the stock run was done the same day. Still better than nothing though.

You should've also started with the weakest mod first (intake) or pulleys or whatever. Now that you have headers first, e very other mod will be exaggerated due to the flow of the headers and not an accurate representation for someone looking for a beginner mod like an intake or muffler. Would've liked to see what the Dinan TB did alone.

Again, cool idea and better than nothing, but not sure how helpful it will be unless someone's looking to do ALL the mods you did. Still curious what an intake alone (drop in filter, short ram, then cold air, then quality cold air (Dinan) does alone)

Zander, double-click the post title in the forum view to change the title. Doing it by editing the post won't reflect the new title in the forum view.

Also need to flag a mod to have this towed to the correct subforum. It's not a tire post.

None of the settings were changed on the dyno (I can see them because I have the actual files and not a print out). In fact it's been the same guy with me every time doing pulls also. The shop I use is known for building huge HP monsters for me so its fairly well known. SAE math on dyno's takes into account changes which is why everyone uses that measurement to compare apples to apple. Of course it needs to be the same dyno type. The cool thing about the day humidity and temp being the same is you can look at the uncorrected numbers to see HP. For all intensive purposes I'm using the same measuring stick.

There was some method to my madness as to why I did the headers first. I wanted to see what they truly do without supporting mods. Truth be told I was blown away. Intakes and TB for what you get is pretty expensive gains wise. But because I'm also going to be doing a head port with cams, those are a must.

I wish it could have been same day but with work and a kid that wasn't possible.

So far if people want to spend money on mods. Get a pair of headers, either wrap them or professional ceramic coating is the best bank for you buck.

If people want to see what a TB or long tube intake alone, I would be happy to take my headers off. I bet now I could remove mine and re-install the stock set in 3 hours. I probably spent a little longer because I did my oil pan gasket at the same time and spent a bunch of time cleaning under there. The only downside is my sessions are $165 per session. So it adds up.
