Good call, but not necessarily. UHP tires like PSSs just wear horribly without rotation, even if everything else is in order.

Rod bearing wear rate wears out by time spent at 8000rpm. If you set the limiter to 7500rpm, you'd never need to replace them. In a track car living at the limiter, they will probably need replacement at 50,000 mile intervals.

Do them as oil analysis dictates they need to be done. Not buying a car because it hasn't had a service done that it may not need at all seems silly to me.

I bought my 2006 M3 coupe 6MT with 122,000 miles. I drive around 40 miles a day for my commute mostly highway here in socal. Right when i got the car i had the valve cover gasket replaced and the vanos checked. Did a coolant flush and replaced the thermostat myself. replacing the fan clutch tomorrow. other than that the car is incredibly reliable. going to check out the subframe when i put my new KW coilovers on this weekend. ive owned the car for a little under a year and it has about 132,000 miles on it now.

It's 2 years old posting, but it's funny I have to reply.
E46 M3 is NOT a reliable car.

I have 2006 M3 vert, and for the last 8 years of driving, I replaced vanos, fixed oil leak, replaced water bump, replaced fanclutch, fixed another oil leak, changed heater valve, timing chain guide bolt backed out so replaced it, emergency brake never worked, window regulator is going out on both window, the bolt holding window glass backed out twice on both side so i used loctite last time, replaced clutch and flywheel.
I DIYed most of these and spent about 5k.
Otherwise, i probably have spent more than 10k for the repair.

Someone in the reply said he spent 10k and he said M3 is reliable.

Ya ya ya this is a high performance car.
Well... Japanese high performance car doesn't seem to break down as much.

I've had my 2004 for over 5 years now, daily drove it for almost 3 it those and put about 45k miles on, even took some long trips. Is it reliable? Yes. It never left me stranded, and never broke down. However, I also stay extremely on top of regular maintenance and inspections. So, to give the accurate answer: is it reliable? Yes. Is it cheap to run? No. At least not if you want to daily it and maintain it like it should be maintained.

In general I would say yes, but it is not a Toyota or Honda. It requires upkeep and maintenance. It can be expensive.

I daily drive my '04 vert and love it. Bought it 2 years ago with 45k miles and now have 61k so don't drive a ton but take it everywhere. I'm in the second season of autocross and can keep up with the new Camaro/Mustangs. Upgraded blistiens put me in STU and still keep up with much newer cars. I do enjoy doing the maintenance myself so not as expensive but parts on the M are much more than non-M e46 and way more than US or Japanese cars.
