Not much left here except maybe carpet, auto headlamp switch, and a few misc interior trim pieces. Probably won't last long before getting crushed.

Engine/Trans Parts, Seats, Interior. Dirty inside and out, but some body parts look straight and dent free.

Here's a ZHP at a yard in rural KS:

https://houston.craigslist.org/pts/d...757685388.html

Could be some really great and uncommon parts still on this car.

BTW, I asked the mods to pin this thread, but so far no joy....

Man I'd kill for those front seats, steering wheel, and trim. Too far away unfortunately.

The self service yards around here have online notifications that you can set up to let you know if something you're looking for has come in. Most of the E46s that I've seen have been either 323s or 325s, but somebody posted recently that they'd gotten a notification that a ZHP had come into the yard in Durham (they attach 4 or 5 pictures to show the car's condition on entry) and by the time he got there a few hours later everything that's unique to the ZHP was gone, including the cams.

I think that professional junk yard picker has become a thing. I've often seen guys at the yard on the phone with what sounds like customers, trying to set up the sale of parts that they haven't even pulled or paid for themselves yet.

Awesome find! Someone local has probably scooped up all the good bits and pieces I'm sure. It sounds like the seller deals with lots of E46 cars so he's gotta know what the rare parts are worth.

When it comes to ZHP parts I almost feel like it would be worth it to buy a whole car from a salvage auction. I'm looking for a set of style 135 wheels, some silver cube trim and M sport wheel.

-The style 135 wheels seem to be going for anywhere between $500-$1000 depending on condition.

-Cube trim $200-$500

-Steering wheel $200-300.

For that much I could get a whole car including broker fees, keep all the parts I need, part out the rest and probably make a couple grand. That is assuming I could find one local and not have to pay $1500 to ship one from California.

It's not a surprise that these cars don't show up at salvage yards often... lately when I see parts from a ZHP its from some smaller specialty parts dealer that only does a few specific cars.

This guy in Gurnee, IL has been buying a few of the local ZHP salvage auction cars I've been tracking in the midwest on IAA and Copart. His user ID is socalguido on eBay and the going rate for just the engine is around $800 with Buy it Now and the listings disappear after a day or two max.

If I had the time it sounds like it would be a pretty solid side business.

Well ****. Guess that's why no ZHPs or M3s ever end up at any of the salvage yards around Chicago. Every once in a while a riced up 330 will show up with some goodies on it but that's it. Hate that guy....

the best parts i scored was OEM touring white/red tail lights (no orange). 16$ for the pair. added lumbar support into my non-lumbar support sport seats.

i love going to the junk yard. i would love start collecting a manual swap parts, but unfortunately there's no one to help me with removing a manual tranny at the yard. (i have no friends that would get down and dirty for cars, I'm solo on this journey)

Wow that's a great price for OEM clear tail lights. I'm still searching for a pair myself.

How did you go about adding the lumbar support to the sport seats? Did you modify your existing seats to add it, or did you have to find new seats that had the lumbar support?

This one was interesting to me since it has a manual transmission. I'm looking for a driveshaft because my sedan has a sloppy rear U-joint and vibrates under load. To get at parts underneath they will pick up the car with a fork lift and put it on a metal stand. To pull the driveshaft myself would be $50.

I'm not sure if that's even worth all the work to get at it since there are good used driveshafts on car-part.com for $100 already pulled.

I think that I may have gotten the last set of Euro clears that ECS was blowing out for $24 a little while back. I'd hesitated because I wasn't happy with my bank balance at the time so waited until payday. Not one hour after I'd placed my order somebody posted here saying that they were marked sold out.

I was also considering these Red/Clear/Red tail lights since they look closer to what's on the E46 sedan. I have no idea what kind of quality they are though, and I'm not sure I want to go non OEM look.

Anybody have experience with these and how well they fit?

I don't like that the reverse portion of the inners gets larger and doesn't have the red surround. The fit doesn't look particularly good in the first picture either, the line at the edge of the hatch is short of the bodywork.

Just found out that any cars at this location will be gone before the end of the year.

The salvage yard was ordered to shut down by the state due to fraudulent activities related to sales of crushed cars to another metal recycler.

The owner was convicted of racketeering for adding dirt and sand to the inside of cars prior to selling them for scrap. It was something like a $14M worth of inflated value over 5+ years. He was paying off an employee at the scrap company to accept the overweight cars. The salvage yard owner going to prison for 11 years.

There are two Pick-N-Pull yards within 20 miles of my house here in Sacramento. Prices are good but the cars that show up in Pick-N-Pull tend to be pretty low end - only 323s and 325s, typically vinyl interiors in pretty bad shape. Never seen a 330. I scored some nice black interior plastic and a rear wiper blade from a Touring a few months ago, but that car is gone now. Cars stay in Pick-N-Pull only a few weeks.

I check the Row52.com for Pick-n-Pull inventory. The VIN tells me if the car it has leather, HK sound, etc. Prices seem to vary from visit to visit (who is on duty, their mood, etc.) but range from reasonable to dirt cheap. I find Pick-N-Pull prices to be about 10-20% of the cost of a new part while the other BMW Specialty junk yards try to get 70-80% of the price of a new part unless you argue vigorously.

I am willing to swing by and check out condition (within reason) and I think there are people who are in the business of pulling and shipping parts. I think you can contact them through the Pick-n-Pull or Row52 websites.

modified my seats to fit. well, all you have to do is to drill out the hole on the side plastic for the button. other then that its all plug and play

got all the parts from the junkyard. use the parts from any powered seats (sports or non-sports)

best functional mod ever, e46 sport seats hurt my lower back after 30 mins, need to fill that empty space so it doesn't round my back.

good write up here

Great thread! E46s are pretty common in the yards around here these days, I just don't have the time to go too often, sadly.

If anyone remotely close to eastern PA comes across a ZHP I need the rear section of the driveshaft and the input flange from the rear diff. The driveshaft I got with my 6 speed is missing the CV joint, and it seems to be specific to the ZHP, or at least the 6 speed. I found a couple of 330 cars the last time I went, but they all had auto trannies and the u-joint/4 bolt rear.

This one has been on the lot about a week and looks completely intact. Whoever owned this car was disgusting and the center console is covered in years of spilled drinks and fast food crumbs but the door panels looked pretty decent. The orange tag shows it was abandoned at the side of the road so I'm presuming engine issues.
