Arrow best laptop for under $850? Recommendations please...

I have a practice allowance for my job and I need a new laptop. I have $850 left in my fund and I am looking for some recommendations for the best bang for the buck in laptops. Keep it below $850 please! Thanks.

Anything will be “better” than my 5 year old laptop so the only thing I need/want is a widescreen display. That and wifi card (I have a centrino now). EASY SET-UP FOR NETWORKING!!!

Depends on what you are using the computer for. You are going to pay more for a mac than a PC (hard to touch one for 800, if at all). I have a mac and dual boot windows on it for work related tasks. Mac osx connects flawlessly into a windows network, its not hard to do at all.

i will probably go with a PC since Macs might not work with the hospital network.

Dell?
HP?
Compaq?
Toshiba?
Gateway?

if you want to buy new just get a base lenovo T series
its like 700-800~ depending on the weekly discount

all those generic brands like sony dell are all plastic ... lenovo = magnesium ally casing, drop protection, liquid protection, all the things a good business laptop should have

Get a Mac. there shouldn't be any issues accessing a a windows network. I have a mac and all the computers at my house are windows and I have no trouble sharing files and what not.

I know you guys like Macs, but why not suggest something he asked for in the price range that fits him?

How about this: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/HP-Pa...oductDetail.do

It's UNDER your budget, very capable, and it even has HDMI for easy hookup to your HDTV.

WTF is so special about a mac anyway? He's not doing any photo editing or video work. Mac's are just a fad and that's the reason most people buy them.

Bender, I recommend a toshiba, my family has bought dell's, hp's, compaqs, and toshibas, and the only laptops with no issues have been the toshibas.

This one looks good and it's under your budget. Spend the extra money on an extra battery and a nice case or something. It has a huge 320GB HD, N wireless built in, 4gb of ram, dvd burner, webcam. What more do you need?

please please stay away from the hp pavilion dv 2000s, 5000s, 6000s, and 9000s. the motherboards in them go out all the time, and also the power button goes out, a lot cheaper to fix but seriously i have alteast one maybe 2 hp pavilions come in for repair a week, and mainly for bad mobo or power button. do not buy

I know more than a few people who have HPs and haven't had any problems with them.

A Lenovo I had to send return twice to the store and in the end I decided not to keep it. These things happen.

thanks everyone. i would actually love a mac for photo editing, but i need to connect to hospital networks and i know there have been problems with macs. i think the IT dept. is not thrilled with them. given i have an allowance for a free laptop at $850 right now, i need a system that will not cause a headache.
