Yes it is, and the phone number listed is Washington area code 206....

But it's clearly listed in BC, and my friend in Vancouver actually told me he recognized the area in the pictures.

So it's a bit mysterious!

Not to argue the quality of other cars for sale past and present, but I'd wager there are not many "custom" E46s that are as nice as an Alpina.

That car has a bored and stroked S52, according to Alpina it makes 40hp more than a stock S52. IF you take a 20% drivetrain, maybe more being AWD, then that is 225whp, which is what a well sorted B30 makes. Plus it is fully integrated into the E46 chassis. I would ditch the aftermarket radio and go back to stock, but otherwise the interior and exterior presents very well. If I wanted a "done" car to drive I would consider something like this and then 6spd swap it as that was an option from the Alpina literature.

Agreed. It's apples to donuts, and depends on what you are after.

From a practical perspective there are less expensive ways to get "more/better"

When buying an Alpina like this, you aren't just buying performance and style, but something that transcends the sum of its parts.

Any decent indy shop could put together an E46 with aftermarket parts that will outperform an Alpina, and for half the money probably.

But such a car will generally be worth less on the market than it cost to build, and will not appreciate in the same way.

When buying an older Alpina you are buying both a product and a marquis. It's a collectible that should continue to appreciate if kept well.

I'm personally not tempted on this one because of the AWD.
I would want to drive it in the winter not the summer, but our winters are hard on cars (salt and gravel on roads) so I wouldn't drive it much because I'd hate to ruin it.

The FL b30 swap car is all the $$ for all the miles, apparently.

HAHA! Good eye. I noticed the sticker on the rear end but didn't catch the big-ass dent right below it.

Also, is that color Steel Blue Metallic? It doesn't have a VIN listed to run through the decoder.

The sticker is there to distract viewers from the dent

Some cheap ones around the midatlantic right now:

2003 XI with decent miles, pretty basic, $1100.

https://newjersey.craigslist.org/cto...054957931.html

2003 XI, 5 speed, high miles, manual seats, crossbars and roof box, looks pretty clean, $2800.

https://poconos.craigslist.org/cto/d...054921507.html

2005 XI, sport package, auto, higher miles, looks clean, though an oil leak noted.

https://newjersey.craigslist.org/cto...051515374.html

2000 323 sport wagon, green over beige, rwd/5speed, high miles and rough, but seems to be an honest ad, $2200

https://hudsonvalley.craigslist.org/...047080456.html

2000 323 sport wagon, auto, rwd, higher miles, rough, interestingly has a facelift front bumper, $1900.

Looks good. Great color combo, maintenance sounds good, low miles, etc.

Seems like a weird combination to have the sport seats but not Xenons. Looks fairly nice otherwise.

Without digging into it, looks like a great deal, assuming it's a native NW car.

...hoping to hear from the seller. Only contact is email on Autotrader, and I messaged him early this morning. I'm ready to go check this thing out!

Looks good I'd definitely check it out first. I just question why you'd do all that maintenance then sell it to fix a Saab?!? Seems suspect to step down like that.

Regardless, with all that work done and the miles it looks pretty good

That checks out at least.

I just went back and read the Autotrader listing. The rust is a little troubling. If you haven't already pulled it up on Carfax or something to see where it's lived before, that would be a good idea. I bought my touring a little over a year ago. It lived it's life before that in greater Seattle and it's got zero rust

Yeah, that's a good point. I was going to take the rust into consideration when I looked at it. I'm kind of a DIY guy and would be willing to tackle some rust, but not a whole car's worth. My M3 is steel gray and I think it would be bitchin to have a matching Touring

Never take on rust.

Buy the best paint and body that you can afford and fix the mechanicals, it's far cheaper and easier.
