I've found the kits that are bright enough to be effective as DRLs in daylight are indeed too bright at night. FWIW, here in Europe factory fit DRLs are required to automatically dim or extinguish when the headlights are switched on, for that very reason. The DRL light output isn't shielded like a low beam headlight and it goes everywhere, creating glare. I wanted my angel eyes to behave like modern factory LED DRLs, so I've used a relay triggered by the lighting circuit to switch the power supply to the AEs via a DC-DC converter that takes the voltage down to 9v.

(By dimming them with the headlights rather than having them turn off, they also function as my sidelights and parking lights, like modern factory DRLs over here. So I've been able to delete the 5w incandescent sidelight bulbs we have here in the high beam housing)

I think someone on a US forum must have once guessed they were called city lights and you all ran with it Never heard them called that over here. In legislation they're like your corner lights, in that they are required to be on whenever the headlights are on so, if a headlight bulb goes out, oncoming traffic can't mistake you for a motorcycle. The difference is they have to be white, within a certain distance of the side of the vehicle (hence the name) and not amber (because that's reserved for signalling or warning). We also have a requirement to have sidelights and tail lights lit on at least the offside when parked at night where there are no streetlights, which is why in BMW speak they're standlicht, literally standing lights, and use can use the indicator stalk when the keys are out to light them on one side only.

I might make a full review on them one day if anyone is on the fence but here's some highlights
-very bright (in a good way)
-easy-ish to install, I just followed a YouTube video
-fitment is ok, would recommend to have projectors or you'll have a gap around the bowl
-would recommend opaque
-wait for a sale

If fitment is a high priority then I don't recommend getting these (unless there's a way to make them flushed with the High beam Bowl)
but other than that its worth it, Every time I unlock my car it still brings a smile to my face, so its worth it to me

Just wondering if I can achieve this look on my 01 330ci. Where did you get those exactly? I have no experience when it comes to wiring AEs but I have the time and motivation to learn. Thanks in advance.

Umnitzas Orion V4 LED Angel Eyes

These are the ones I purchased^^

I'm sure you can get the same look, the rings are a bit smaller than the bowls so the fitment isn't perfect. I have projectors so It's only noticeable around the high beam bowls, especially when they're off, but when they're on I don't notice the gaps unless I'm a foot away. Sometimes the driver side pair flickers and dimes on cold mornings, I don't know what causes this but it happens rarely and once the car warms up they're bright again. The only real issue I have with them.

They've been great so far. It's pricey but I got them on sale. I just looked up how to install angle eyes on YouTube, "ShopLifeTV" has a pretty good DIY and so does "Twinline Garage". There's a number of DIY guides on the forums here too. Search is your friend. Its pretty easy to install and those DIYs apply for most AE kits. I do like those "Angle Eye Guy" ones too, I will try to convince my bother to get them on his 330i, and compare the two, hopes this helps

Who would be interested in a group buy for the V4 - just in time for July 4th?
we're talking $200 for the set if we get 20 people...

Let me bring this thread full circle.

This past week I finally got around to installing the new headlight lenses and angel eyes from Angel Eye Guy. First of all, below is what I left for a review:

Quote:
Excellent Product
George Roffe on Aug 20, 2019

I bought these a year ago to install when I got around to replacing my headlight lenses. That day was today. The kit was excellent quality, well packaged, and the instructions were excellent.

It's truly refreshing to have an aftermarket product actually live up to expectations. I can certainly recommend these to anyone. About the only thing I could ask for was a mount for the relay, but if I'd opened these when I got them and looked things over, it would have been easy enough to source one.

If you're thinking about Angel Eyes, these are the ones to get.
Note: I didn't buy them a year ago. It only seemed that way.

Note II: Joey at Angel Eye Guy told me they now supply a bracket for the relay and sent me one for free. I have to install that still.

I cannot say enough about this product, and many thanks to those who pointed me to them. For $60 I got the opaque LEDs with no switchback.

I'll try to get pics this week. The car is still in the garage because I'm chasing an obscure OBDII issue. I've NO codes, but the car will not reset to ready for inspection. Something in Mode $06, it's error 05, component 07. I am pretty sure it's related to the EVAP from reading threads here. The SAP and EVAP will not reset. Once I get that sorted I'll get pics.

[edit] re: the instructions: I was able to fish the under dash trigger wire behind the dash, rather than below it as they show in the instructions.

OK, finally sorted my OBDII issues (well, mostly - still can't get the SAP monitor to set).

Anyway, I washed the car last night so I got some quick pics with it outside the garage. The airdam damage was due to a tire carcass the guy in front of me spun back in my path. Argh. Already have a new bumper and airdam and working on getting it done.

Anyway, the pics:

They look great. Glad to see someone has a quality budget alternative with instructions.
At the risk of getting this thread off track, could you PM me your bumper source?

The bumper is a regular pre-facelift sedan bumper. The airdam (lip) is a Hammann style. When I bought my first E46 (when these cars were still in production), this airdam was really popular. It faded from popularity when the MTech II came out and the M3 bumpers for non-M cars came out. I found both of mine on eBay. The nice thing about the eBay version is it's molded out of ABS instead of fiberglass like the real Hammann airdam.

This is the one I bought and this is the vendor. They've been good both times I've dealt with them and the fit is pretty good:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Fits-99-01-...AAAOSwXtNaYhWK

Back on the topic of the angel eyes, the quality really is top notch. I'd recommend them to anybody looking for AEs.

Which companies sell DTM style halos for facelift coupes? I'm thinking I'd like to get a set for my 05 but I'd like to see pics of them installed before I pull the trigger. I saw that Angle Eye Guy sells some but he doesn't have installed pics on his website. Does anyone know how to contact Angle Eye Guy? I didn't see any contact on his website to request pics so I'm at a loss. Google didn't produce any results either.

I installed a set from him and have his contact info if you need, but you can also go on YouTube and check out a review I did on the AEs. Mine is also an 05 coupe...have fun baking your headlights haha

I was also looking at the DTM style and chose the opaque instead. I wanted to avoid cutting the trim if possible. FWIW, I really like the opaque style. It's a soft glow as opposed to a harsh look and it gives the whole front end an update with pretty simple installation. I did throw the clips in the trash and used 4 pea-sized dollops of clear RTV to mount the rings to the reflectors. I wasn't impressed though with the supplied bullet connectors and instead bought some 3-position weatherproof AMP connectors for the drivers/turn signals, but that was my choice.

Perfectly happy with the purchase. No complaints.

FYI, use 10OFF2019 at checkout.

Dang, I just ordered before I came back here and saw your discount code. Oh well. I contacted him via FB and he was quick to answer my questions on a late Thursday night. Kudos to him for great customer service!! He was able to send me some pics of the the DTM style installed on a LCI coupe but they didn't look to great IMO. Both sides of the ring came up to the same height with only a small gap at the top. It looked a little off to me. I sent him a pic of the 3/4 style DTM rings I wanted and he actually had some for an E46 facelift coupe. So I ordered them right on up!! I think it's going to really modernize the front end of my ZHP. I'm also going to be installing gloss black kidneys, coilovers, wheels and yellow fogs. I can't wait to see the finished product.
