INPA Convertible Top Module Read Status Error

Using a new INPA install to diagnose top problem on 05 330Ci. When trying to read status (F5 on INPA) of various Hall effect sesnors and particularly the S239 microswitch I get the INPA message saying

"Read status"
"error in communications to control-unit"
"Job will be restarted"

The black and white dots cycle as apparently INPA is trying to restart connection but nothing happens.

FWIW, F4 will read errors (shows none) but F5 will not read status but only shows error msg.

I'm thinking my trunk storage floor switch (S239) is flaky so I wanted to use INPA to show that switch status as I raised and lowered trunk floor.

Any ideas would be most welcome. FYI, BaliDawg helped with INPA install and he remotely communicated with many other vehicle modules via INPA with no communication problems. Only seems to be when trying to read status on Convertible Top module.
