Wats cheaper? Interior swap? or tranny swap?

Hey wats up fella's, i posted this over on BimmerVibe too, but i think i'll get more replies here hehe...

As some of you know, i'm soon to be in the market for a used 330i. Wat i want is jetblack with black interior n a manual tranny.

Now when you're going USED, its kinda hard to be specific. So like I'as thinking maybe if I got a jet black 330i with cream interior, i could maybe down the road swap it with a black 330i interior. I imagine its pretty expensive to do so. But how much do you guys figure it'll run me (ballpark figure)?

Also do you think it'll be cheaper to do that?

Or get a automatic blak on black, and swap in a manual tranny down the road?

What will be cheaper? Or what would the better decision be?

Thanks for ur input guys

- Najeeb

Re: Wats cheaper? Interior swap? or tranny swap?

i think your resale value will go down the drain after a tranny swap. perhaps not an interior swap. both would be really expensive. seats alone are several $K each.

id say go with the manual. if someone messes up while they are changing an auto to a manual, you may be out a motor. youll worry less about an interior swap.

i also inquired a local shop here about the interior swap, and i was quoted $2000.

hope this helps.

If you need a black interior, let me know. I want a grey interior with my black.

I agree.

There is a lot less to worry about with the interior swap than tranny swap.

I think interior swap (like two tone interior) will still be alot cheaper than a tranny swap. Try contacting "amir" on here, he did a step to 5 speed swap on his 330.

Why not just hold off until you can get the car you want?

I am holding off, i've been looking for two months, and still have only come across 3 that are exactly wat I want, but are either too expensive, or across the country heh.

Man two months, that is kinda long, but I think you'd feel better getting what you want, and not settling. If you plan on spending a coupla grand on an interior swap, then maybe you could just add that money to what you're willing to pay for the car?

Exactly!

It also took me 2 months to find the 330 I wanted. I ended up spending more than I wanted but it's the exact options/color combo/tranny that I wanted (not to mention one with a lot less mileage than average).

Hold out until you find it. Don't compromise, don't settle. Best of luck!

Yo, don't swap nothing. Its easy to fock up other **** by swapping things. Your just gonna be looking for headaches. Also, an auto. 3er is gonna cost you alot more used than a manual, so don't even think about that unless you wanna through your money away.

I would definitely buy the car with the transmission you want and swap the interior later. You can even do a custom two-tone interior while you're at it.

also btw, how much do two-tone interiors run (ballpark figure)?

I noticed a lot of ppl who have done two tone interiors on the 3series, all have basically the same style setup... is there any company specifically u order from? (ie. katzkin?).

Thanks

Yup, the manual transmission is standard -- it's not an option. I'd definetely swap my interior before the transmission, swapping out the transmission can turn into a real headache and you may run into some issues with the OBC functions. On the other hand an interior swap is just a matter of finding the parts and you can install everything yourself.
