I am prepping the car now...

It looks like i will be buying this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-E38-E39-...18c3bf&vxp=mtr

and then i will fit an accelerator pedal from a E46 325i (M54) 2004yr in the place where my cable operated one used to be...

looks like the E39 M5 instrument cluster will slide right in and plug right up...

this is what i will be doing about the motor-mount issue:

This is a picture of where the sway bar mounts would usually bolt up to the frame, i will drill through the frame to insert sleeves to hold a bolt and nut, and that triangular thing is where i strengthened the mount so it will not flex..

This way i could use the stock E39 rubber mounts...

The stock E46 ECU and E39 ECU have the same plug holes, so in theory this will plug right up...

I just need the keys to fit my ignition lock and the programmed EWS module and a ECU that will none-the-less get reflashed...

I've been thinking what it would be like to run something like two MHI 16G turbos with a M62B35TU ? or even something smaller like two MHI 14B ?

Don't get me wrong.... this is just an idea.... if it will go into action i will not start it until careful planning has occured...

And while i remember i will use a E30 swaybar, preferrably one from a E30 M3, or possibly modify my E46 M-tech swaybar to fit like a E30 one..

This is the way the Sway bar is mounted in the E30, and i suppose it would be just fine in the E46 this way

Hi there at RPM MotorSport...

I have been looking at your replacement ECU + EWS + KEYS packages and find this very interesting...

I currently have a M62 swap going on into a E46, this is my thread on E46fanatics:
https://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=961545

On the top of page 2 i explain my ideas on what to do about EWS and such and i think i have come up with a soloution but i need your help

The key on my 1999 E46 does not look like the key to a E39, they are different in the way that the E46 key has a slot and the E39 key has a line with some cutouts on the sides,
not exactly the biggest problem since i am sure you could make me keys to go with the kit so that i could get matching EWS and ECU but with E46 style keys

However, i would of course like to be able to use my current key and EWS box, is it possible to buy a ECU unit from you guys that has been synchronized with my KEY/EWS combo ?

Can i ship you my E39 M62TU ECU for a reflash so that it would be in-sync with my EWS/KEY combo ?

Thanks in advance, hoping to hear from you soon.

RPM Motorsport are great to work with. They should be able to suggest a good solution for you.

Actually an S54 makes considerably more torque than the m62B35, and most of it is available from 1500RPM onward.

If S62 swap is your goal, fair enough. Though the latter swap will still require some electrical modifications (probably similar to swapping an s54 into a non-M e46)

365 Nm (269 lbft) @ 4900 for the S54

345 Nm (254 lbft) @ 3800 for the M62B35TU

wish i had the dyno slip for the E39 to post, it did 264hp @ ~5900rpm & 378nm @ ~3900rpm...

and @ 1200rpm, it would be pulling 284nm... don't really see that happening with the S54...

I would really like to see the dyno slip for a stock S54, i think all BMW motors of this era are probably well underrated, a stock M62B44TU with only decats & ECU reflash did a 322hp on a dyno here, but tq numbers were close to stock..

anyway, this is what i'm doing after some very careful planning...

an S62 swap would not be any more complicated into a E46 after a M62TU swap has been done prior....

a S62 will drop right into a E39 540i that had a M62TU, this all comes down to ECU/EWS...

You would even be able to mount an A5S 560Z behind the S62 with some custom ECU flashing

Looks like the paint-job gets delayed to the 18th of January...

So i might be mocking up and setting the motor up in the engine bay right after new-years, so i might get a few pics of that on here in the next days, will be awful nice to see the car sit like it should

How legal for driving is this at your side? Do you need rebuild certificates also?

No, not at this point... if i convert from petrol to diesel or the opposite i would have to explain what car the motor came out of and such...

I can also run it without the cats in the center-pipes, i only need the cats in the exhaust manifolds, as inspection here only wants to see them on the cars...

Wierd law huh?

No paintjob yet, guess i went into focusing on getting the stuff i needed for the swap first, mocking everything 100% up and then i will paint everything...

So far.... so good:

Correct Throttle Pedal and in-sync ECU for motor and EWS :!:

Not from 1200RPM, but from 1500RPM it does pull pretty hard. 284Nm doesn't seem like outside the realm of possibility. Heck with tunes there are a few M3s making 330whp and 260-270 lb-ft at the wheels. I can't find any s54 dynos from 1000, but here's an essentially stock one from 2000: http://www.turnermotorsport.com/imag...dyno_s54m3.jpg

On US software the S54 is dead until 2000RPM. With euro software and headers it pulls nicely from 1500.

MSS52 probably wouldn't take kindly to an automatic. It would take more than a little bit of ECU hacking. SMG may very well be doable since MSS52 is essentially an MSS54 with a couple extra drivers.

You do realize a 3.5L won't be significantly torquier than a 3.2L, right? Cylinder count itself doesn't have a huge impact on torque (hence e60 and e39 m5s making same peak torque). If you were doing a 4.4/4.6 or 5.0 swap, then my opinion would be different.

In any case, good luck with the swap

i think this swap is cool and it does make sense since fitting a s54 is a bit pointless as bmw made a e46 with this however they never made a e46 with any v8 and when tuned it will out perform a s54 as the old saying goes no replacement for displacement and im from britain where petrol cost 7 a gallon! its different, its fairly unique and you dont have to rev the nuts off it to get it to do its thing. I love the s54 m3 its a brilliant car but if someone wants to build something different then that is cool and i respect the engineering that goes into this. so can peolple please stop moaning about weight etc as all we really want to read on this thread is how not why!!!!!!! any way i`ll step of my soap box now ranting over.

Sorry to hear that happened OP...black looks good but that fender gap looks awful. Good luck with the Swap!

Might I also suggest swapping out your wood trim 4 another set of trim like maybe piano black or brushed aluminum I recently swapped my wood trim for piano Black and think it turned out great IMHO.
