Yep, you dont have to sell me on it Amazing what an extra .7 liters in displacement and a completely different architecture can do!

Amongst everything else, the potential is very high on the s54. When I did my swap 3-4 years ago I was excited as it was CSL spec'd engine - now going to a fully built , sleeved and destroked turbo setup

APOLOGIES ABOUT THE SIZE OF THE PICTURE - PHOTOBUCKET!

Someone had removed the MV1 alloys and fitted a set of MV2 alloys crudely painted anthracite. I discovered they were all bent (one very badly) so bought a set of 18" style 32 and had them refurbished.......also discovered they are several kilos lighter! Already done Vanos seals (big improvement) and valve cover gasket, CCV and associated pipes, PAS pipes, Lower arms, drop links and control bushes, numerous oil a filter changes over last 4K due to car only doing an average of 1,500 miles a year for past five years with infrequent changes......underside of valve cover was manky! Injectors cleaned and flow balanced (made huge improvement), fuel filter, water pump, thermostat, viscous fan clutch, coolant change, software update to engine and gearbox (nice!), brake fluid change....twice due to being chocolate brown! Also transmission fluid and filter change. Had an Autoleads shark fin DAB antenna painted and fitted through the roof (horrible drilling into the roof.....just feels wrong!), fitted new front and repeater yellow indicators.
Drives really well now - only issue is a weak exhaust valve actuator that causes the valve to rattle at cold start......too expensive to fix unless I cut the actuator off and weld on a known good replacement.

Hey there! Great list of maintenance items and updates.. curious..What software update did you do?

thanks

Thanks - factory BMW software update. It is a 2002 year car and there must have been an update sometime after that......the last one BMW offered for that model.
Don't ask me the detail of what the update was supposed to do as I cannot tell you
I do know it improved the smoothness of the gearbox......that's about the only change I noticed.

Not by coincidence! I first saw the 162s on his car and I recently moved to the south where the roads aren't full of potholes so having 18" wheels is reasonable. Wish mine was Oxford green though. Black was at the lower end of my color preferences, especially metallic black, but this car was a 5 speed with all the options that I wanted so I made the sacrifice.

I really like the m-tech 1 look on the e46. Its a little more understated than m-tech 2, although I don't think they ever made m-tech 1 for the rear bumper of the wagon.

I agree with you, the Mtech1 is my preferred front bumper. More aggressive, yet still that understated OE feel.

I would have swapped to Tech 1 if not for me getting the Tech 2 kit for $200 shipped.

That is a great price. I picked up my mtech 1 for $65 from a pick & pull in rhode island (where they havenít banned them yet.) Really lucked out there, it was off. 330xi sport that had been completely picked apart except for the front bumper for whatever reason.

Are you doing full tech 2 with the skirts and rear bumper?
