Will ABS function without the DME?

Like the title says, will the ABS still function without the DME in the car?

I'm in the midst of an engine swap project on my '01 330Ci. I've thinned the wiring almost as far as I can retaining the circuits I want. I don't care about, nor do I want, the DSC but I do want to retain ABS if possible. The only sensors remaining are the wheel speed sensors and the brake pressure sensors. I've removed all yaw sensors and the DSC module from the dash. I've been all over the net but there isn't anything that specifically addresses this question, at least that I could find.

I’ll take that silence as an “I don’t know” from everyone. Guess we’ll find out, I removed the last of the DME wiring along with the EWS today.

Not alot of people with experience with the LS swaps... I'm not too far behind you.

If you ever find out, please post ---> it'll help the rest of us out...

Thanks!

I'll definitely let everyone know as soon as I find out. Hopefully moving under its own power this summer when I have time to work on it. Just need to wire the Holley EFI, plumb the fuel system and install a driveshaft.

I'm about a month out on my swap (parts acquisition phase; The main bits (engine/transmission + electronics) are sourced, it's the smaller stuff now: headers, mounts)... How did this pan out? Did the DME matter?

Still no word on the ABS without DME, car is not running yet. However I finally got around to testing other circuits today after all the wiring was thinned. I can confirm that without the DME and any engine related wiring/relays in the car the wipers, power windows, power locks, headlights, taillights, turn signals, hazards (flashers), and horn still all function.

A bit of unsolicited advice since I've been at this project for quite awhile now, get the Vorshlag mounts. I started with the CX racing set trying to save money and eventually switched to Vorshlag. It hurts the wallet but in the end is worth it. Now, if you or anyone really just wants the cheapest solution I'll be posting my CX mounts for sale soon. But again, get the other and be done with it.

I hear 'ya on the CX Racing items. Pretty much everyone I've spoken to says the same thing.

The owner of the shop I engaged to do the swap rolled his eyes and began shaking his head 'no' as soon as the words 'CX Racing' left my lips during our conversation. He mentioned he would use some of the Vorshlag parts: Driveshaft, Headers, and Steering shaft (better/easier to buy than to build). He also indicated he would fab the engine/transmission/AC compressor mounts at the shop.

The shop (Zero2Sixty Performance in St. Petersburg, Fl.) has done a number of the LS swaps into e46's, and the owner has done it twice for his personal vehicles (one street car, and one race car). They specialize in LS Swaps: performance work and LS swaps is their core business...

I believe they are planning on leaving the DME in the car (it's a convertible, so I'm about 90% sure the DME is needed to run the convertible top module - if I unplug it, the top doesn't operate).

Have you guys looked at the TDR mounts from www.v8schassis.com?
I got mine in the mail a few weeks ago and they are very nice for $300 for the pair.
I am still in the process of test fitting things but they look like they are going to work well, my biggest hurdle right now is making room for the 4L60E in the trans tunnel.

I'll mention those to David at the shop. Since it's a 'turn key' thing for me (shop doing all the work), I don't have a real preference, but will see what he says/thinks... The pictures make a convincing case: those do look nice....

Any update on ABS functioning with a different motor and DME? Would be nice...

ABS will work without a DME. MK60 ABS units are a VERY common standalone swap in race cars.

This is what I have been reading and why I went at my wiring harness so aggressively. Car still not ready to roll on its own yet, so I can't confirm.
