Congratulations! It helps to see what we are talking about before actually buying.

There is no "r" in my screen name.

I put the r in the wrong place my bad

So I see how the front sight is held by the hex bolt. Is the rear sight just slid in?

Matt
How much did you get the g17 for?
I should have bought a Glock way back when I was first looking ... prices have gone up a lot
I haven't gun shopped lately so I don't even know what is a good deal these days

I haven't seen a Glock front sight that wasn't held in by the screw. There are a bunch of tools available, this is what an inexpensive one looks like.

The rear sights are pushed in. You can use a sight tool or a punch, but I would recommend going to the local gun shop and having them do it with the sight tool.

Soon actually, looking at a holster and came across this one which and was wondering if you guys had any input. I want a holster to stay on my belt/leg that will allow me to keep my light attached, any other recommendations?

Looks pretty cool. I bought a Kydex one for me K&H USP 9mm a few years back that would accommodate my light. It's packed away somewhere. But this one looks a little more minimal. I like it.

You've never seen anyone conceal carry with a light? Don't give me that facepalm crap... I'm not going to assume anything, let him tell us what he wants and then offer suggestions from there.

It's not for conceal carry more for out at ranges etc.

I also like the versatility of being able to keep my light on take it off and still use the same holster. It looks like it can be attached to the leg or other places, so it adds to that functionality aspect as well.

Don't know about LA, but most ranges won't let you holster your pistol. Unless you're talking about an dynamic range activities or classes. Even if you're outdoors at a static range, they typically won't want you holstering.

I was finally able to look up that Fobus holster on my phone (the site is blocked at work). I've never seen it before, and a quick search didn't really give me any additional information on it.

Personally, I use Raven Concealment Phantom for my OWB holsters. I have versions to use with or without my weapon light. I also have some holsters that a friend of mine makes (quick shout out to him www.hbcconcealment.com). I mainly use the G-Code INCOG now for IWB, but I also have a Raven Phantom for a Glock 19 that has the IWB loops.

Dark Star and others are starting to make some good IWB and AIWB holsters for pistols with and without WMLs. I'm not a huge fan of carrying off-duty with a WML, as the applicability in a defensive situation is far more remote than in an offensive/tactical role. That said, it doesn't hurt anything and light is your best friend, so it's never a bad thing if you can make it work.

For open range carry, there are several options. The key is to determine where on the body you want the holster, how you want to carry it on the body (normal belt, duty/gun belt, war belt, drop-leg, etc), and how you want it to hang (high ride, low ride, etc). After that, figure out if you want/need mechanical retention or not. All that should help you determine what to get and how to use it. Many modern light-bearing holsters will still retain the gun without a WML attached. This includes duty type holsters like Safariland and BladeTech, as well as more custom options like Raven and similar molded kydex that work by friction fit.

Since I am planning to have this holster for more dynamic stuff I imagine a leg mount would be best or on a tactical belt of some sort. Again I just like the functionality of having both options and would spend a bit more for that as opposed to limiting myself in that respect.

Thanks for the recommendation checking out those other sites now, we'll see what route I go.

came across this from amazon looks like it might fit a wml.

Don't go with a leg rig, that's straight mall ninja crap. Get a good belt and kydex option. Raven concealment is a great choice.

x1000

I would also like to add that I applaud you for asking questions and getting feedback from people that have used some of this gear prior to making your purchases.

ETA: However I say this, it's going to sound mean. Stop looking on Amazon for holsters and "tactical" gear. Most quality gear will not be found there.
