Get a 9mm pistol, shotgun might cause more damage then you want to your own house.
You don't want to break your T.V., X360, the table, some furniture and pictures of your family trying to shoot a dude.

Are you serious? If there was someone busting in my house the last thing I would worry about is my xbox, tv or some furniture.

Umm, the point of self defense is to protecting your life, not to take other lives while avoiding harm to your brand new Xbox 360.

That's why I'd agree with the shotgun owners and pick the shotgun over the pistol. I got to play around with some commonly available handguns, rifles, and a shotgun recently and the shotgun was a lot easier to hit a target and cause damage.

Australia and Japan with their no gun laws. It probably makes much more sense, but guns are so cool! Americans see it as part of their history and culture, so chances are they will never go away.

they do.. but generally we aren't held at gunpoint and the average baseball bat/ golf club is enough to fend one intruder off.. plus I imagine our police force is somewhat more active. Reading threads in the past on OT if we ring the police they are there in a matter of minutes not days.. lol we are allowed to have guns in Australia and people do. However legally if you want a gun it needs to be kept out of family rooms in a 2 inch thick metal gun cabinet weighing more than 80 kilos with a lock and theres all these other requirements. That generally stop gun related death and violence.

With all this being said we still have people getting shot and gang related violence but not on the magnitude of the U.S and U.K and no matter where you go you will have bad neighbourhoods. But I live in a town of 38 thousand people and I have not in my 19yrs of living here heard of someone getting shot locally.

Can anyone recommend a short-barrel shotgun? Something like the one in Mr. and Mrs. Smith for the housefight.

Have you tried firing a handgun like that? They are extremely hard to use, and as a result you probable won't even shoot what you are aiming at. And why do you need enough power to blast trough somebody's body, take out a large chunk of them, and have the bullet keep on going?

Check laws for that. I know its a fellony in SF maybe all of CA. I had one in my car and my cop friend saw it and let me know about the law (thank god he found it and not another cop). Now I keep a 4 cell maglight.

I don't think it's a year or more in jail for a baton.

Last I read it was a misdemeanor(no longer than one year) and/or fine unless you are a police officer or security guard with proper training. Personally, I'd rather get caught with that in my car than a gun. I just felt it wouldn't be a bad idea to have some form of security because of the neighborhood I work in.

The best choice for a versatile firearm is imo the judge, by taurus. Shotgun/.45 all in one.

my friends wife carries one. She uses both a shotgun shell ammo and .45 in hers.
