You see I think a Ferrari is a scaledown version of... God! And a Porsche 911 is a jumped up VW Beetle.

Are you sure about the cost? I thought I read once that NASCAR cars cost about $1 million apiece. Don't quote me on that.

Some team should just run stock E55 AMGs or E60 M5s in NASCAR and see how they do.

i got the stats off of the F1 race that i recorded and am watching right now

i'd assume they would have to check the accuracy of their national/worldwide things they put on TV

Ummmm because there would be stock mass production cars on a track with Race Cars...

People like you.

The M5 or that other thing won't do well because you actually need to tune a car to go well on banked ovals or the driver will have a very hard time and no tires.

I cannot believe a Porsche 911 Turbo does 0-60 faster than a NASCAR

The E55 and the M5 would get killed on a NASCAR curcuit.

0-60 times of a stock car sounds reasonable since they are geared with long ratios for sustained high top speeds, not 0-60 times. If they were geared like a 911 Turbo, they would top out too early.

I heard that a top Nextel Cup car is actually around $250,000. As for the F1 car, I heard they were closer to $5 million (varies greatly by team), but $14 million seems a little high to me???

F1 pushes the technological edge in terms of material usage and motor development.

Nascar uses well trod paths other than tire tech (if that).

I'd like to see you drive 200+ mph with 40 other cars. You guys know how hot it gets in there, how long they have to consistently drive?

Its all about strategy too... they have teams they work with to win... they use strategies such as drafting to conserve gas..... its using strategy to know when you pit, and its all about the pit crew.. how fast they can pit..... its using teammates to block other cars or help with drafting.

Also, NASCAR DOES race in road tracks (F1 tracks... like Sonoma)

And knock NASCAR all you want, but in terms of making money.... they beat the crap out of F1.

let's not make this a "this is better than that" thread!!! that's not the point. the point was to simply show the technical differences as well as cost differences.

i like NASCAR, but its simply not as "chess-like" as F1

the rules of F1 are harsh and to do a whole race on 1 friggin set of tires really amazes me and that alone is awe-inspiring!!!

I watch NASCAR and F1, and respect them both for what they are.

But to be honest, NASCAR only beats F1 in making money in the US. NASCAR is almost all a US sport, but F1 is the rest of the World. In terms of total Worldwide income and TV viewership, F1 beats NASCAR and all other forms of motor racing.
