Check your email (not PM) for the PDF for the LCM adjustment. You've got the M35080 app & directions - Link is now dead. - you will still need the M35080 HW interface (@$50) Good luck and congrats on those miles. Emailed you a link for the HW interface $42.

No fix, BMWNA told him to punch dirt, dealer wants him to pay up to get a new cluster and somehow code everything to start at 0 again. OP now just tracking miles with a tool

The cars that did a million miles on one engine Ė US edition

BMW 325i (1990)
This BMW 325i bought by Mobil Oil in 1990 had what was probably the easiest million-mile run in history. After being driven on public highways for around 1000 miles, it spent four years on the rolling road at Mobilís research center in Paulsboro, New Jersey, stopping only for oil changes at 7500 miles and normal BMW servicing.
The six-cylinder BMW M20B25 engine was in wonderful condition by the end of the test, but it would be fair to say it had had a less challenging life than most million-milers. -MSN

the 325i was just the 1st of many cars they say went over a million miles. so how can they say that, re:cluster odometer?

if you are referring to the subject of this post, i believe it only affects e46 bmw's, where the cluster maxes out at 621,372 (999,999Km) miles.

Wow! Just wow!

My 1999 323i only has 191,195km.
Everything has failed on it. The only thing I havenít replaced is the body.
Everything else is either new or bought used off eBay.
New engine, and then a cylinder jacket job...
But... I intend also to keep this car running as far as I can.
The new engine was closer to 100,000km... and itís only been 1,200km since.

Weíll see.

stories like this make me wonder. is it m52tu engine? why new engine. not maintained properly? only major engine work i have done at 500,000 is to replace hydraulic lifters. the cylinder head has never been removed from my engine at 700,000 miles.

You know... I couldnít say.
Iím religious about maintenance.
But, in my case, the BMW shop did a botched job on that engine in 2002, and it popped on me in 2012.
So, the car was not running for 8 years until now.
And things started to go bad.
Alternator, DISA, sensors errors, coolant leak, A/C blew up (literally) and of course suspension.
Not being garaged, everything plastic just crumbled away.
Radio, HVAC controls, headlights, side markers, rear stop lights, etc, etch.

Bought an engine off eBay, but one cylinder was too loose an burning oil like crazy. So, I had it jacketed.
Bought everything else new. New headlights, new sensors, new cooling system, new AC system, new instrument panel, new radio, new HVAC, seat reupholstered, new clutch, new alternator, new water pump, new hydraulic lines and pump, new DISA, new throttle body, new suspension, new brake rotors, new windshield washer reservoir, pump, etc.

All in all about $17K something like that...

It is what it is.

If I can make the suspension feel awesome, Iíll swap a 3.0 L M54 engine.

And next week, Iím installing an Alpine ILX-W650 with cameras.

Since I live in Nicaragua, all the stuff I buy has to pay 35% - 55% taxes... plus shipping and handling from the US ...

Anyways, when it runs is awesome ...

I just got an unreliable example, or maybe I expect too much.
There are many running with owners that do next to nothing. So... maybe itís my fault for being too strict?

My second car is an Audi A8 D4 4.2L 2012, that I bought in 2015 with 16K miles, and it has 28K miles now. It looks and feels brand new, so thatís what I drive while I nurse my bummer back to life.

You're the main reason I'm having nightmares-ish about giving up mine with only 386,000 miles on it! Good to hear no major engine work until 500,000, but did you do a timing chain before then? That's been my biggest worry since I'm good enough of a mechanic to know I probably shouldn't do a timing chain.

Anyway, I love machines too...especially green ones!

700,000 original timing chain engine and head never removed from car. Only need to do hydraulic lifters. buy AJ USA some name like that. OEM is rediculous money for 24. Lifters dont need to remove head. one of the top most difficult jobs i ever did with full timing/vanos. that was 200K miles ago running strong. lucas synthetic oil stabilizer got me from 300-500K but will clog lifter ports eventually. after 500K shell rotella t6 synthetic diesel oil best oil for both cylinder head and block oil is a balance of lube requirements for head and block.
