e46 knocking noise

when i get to a stop and idle, i noticed a pronounced "knocking" sound coming from under the drivers side foot-well. Just about where the dead-pedal is under my left foot. this only happens when iím at a stop light. iíve heard itís usually the heater valve that can make that noise.

It's as if someone is tapping on the floor with their knuckle.

Is it cyclic? Or only once as you come to a stop?

e46 knocking noise

Yep I recently reconnected the fuses for my heater valve and I get the same knocking... again.

Now I remember why I removed those fuses.

And this is a brand new heater valve. Iím hoping to eventually clear up the IHKA errors using INPA.

If it's the heater valve, it should stop if you turn off the heat. Simple easy and free to test.

Thatís odd. Heck, hot coolant shouldnít be anywhere near the valve if the heater was off. I suggest you disconnect the electrical connector at the valve and see what happens.

Since the heater valve is normally open (when unpowered), I think turning ON the heat would be the test to do. OP is driving with the heater valve powered and in the closed position, hence why itís hot.

OP, use a mechanicís stethoscope to isolate the source of a noise.
