Hey fanatics kburger here. decided to start a new thread. instrument cluster maxes out at 999,999 KM or 621372 miles. Now the mileage wont increment. Any suggestions? i was going for a million miles on the car now looks like thats not possible.

This is gonna get real. I'm not a jerk love bmw have no intention of trying to take advantage of them legally. But they need to fix this. how am i supposed to get it inspected when mileage doesnt increment. Anyway, to save any of you wasting time 621372 is 999,999 KM mileage it stops there!!!

Contact BMW and have them give you an award and a special cluster that goes to 1mil

You may be the only person with this problem and you must be congratulated for the achievement! Good luck getting this fixed hoping BMW NA can offer assistance.

Seems BMW never expected the vehicle to last this long.

Do the miles still increase and not the km? Maybe the miles need to reach 999,999 before the km reset??

The OP was quite clear that the mileage is not increasing. And well, if the Km's cannot increase, it makes perfect sense that the miles won't either.

Exactly what I was thinking. BMW should give him a brand new car!

This is brilliant. I have contacted bmw [email protected] asking for a new cluster or a new car for kburger. Not expecting much from them but they should do something, anything to help this man.

Well done !

That's some problem to have...congratulations! (Not looking forward to having the same problem in about 10 years. )

Eager to hear you've found a solution! Good luck.

Until you find a resolution, I would get a small GPS for the dash that can keep tracking miles. In a notebook note the max mileage of the inst. cluster, then keep adding mileage to it from the GPS.

If BMW wont do anything officially, cant you reset the odo to zero using software? You might have the tamper dot, but at least you can keep adding mileage.

Let me shake your hand dude ***x1f642; what about information in p.a. soft or something similar ? if your mileage is registered there correctly you can run as far as you wish. Also you could try to get official document from bmw about your milelage and just reset it to 0 and just add numbers.

you got that right.. i would love to see the "actuarial life expectancy tables" for these cars. how long did bmw really plan for them to be serviceable? based on the "lifetime" transmission fluid maybe 200k?

if i reach 600k miles on the 04 i will drive back to sterling and ask for my free engine refresh/replacement.

That's a bummer to hear. I plan to keep my car a long time. Turned 239k today. I think once you pass 150-200k miles, higher miles, on a well maintained car, becomes more a badge of honor than something to affect value.

Does the trip meter still work? If so, at least you can track additional mileage without any external device. If not, you can purchase an UltraGauge to track the mileage for you (among other things).

I would certainly reach out to BMW NA. Could be an easy promotional opportunity for them with minimal effort to help you out.

wow thanks everyone. I'm just glad to see this website is still kicking. believe it or not i actually have more like 660,000 miles. Just get sick and tired of fixing everything i'm a tech by trade i fix pretty much everything after 30 years of it it gets old. Anywho, yeah, i thought it was just broke so it really has like 40K more miles. I do run ultraguage just never used it to track mileage thanks for the tip i'll start now. I was going for a million thats why its a bummer i lost like 40K roughly. Thanks everyone love the feedback. This forum is still cool just gotta fix the photobucket crap. I guess its just part of the politics/time/money all the info is here just make it harder to find it. So many incredbile diy threads with tons of pics wrecked with that photobucket stuff. On subject, bmwna gave me a typical political reply pointing me to my dealer. Dealer is workin on it said they would get back to me in a day or two. I said i'll call you in a week if i dont hear back. Here's the kicker folks, i have thought of alot of the ideas you peeps have presented. How am i supposed to get state inspection if the mileage is either the same or less???????????????????
