BEST exhaust for e46 330i

Looking for best sounding exhaust... want pops and bangs. Maybe something custom?

Pops and bangs come from tuning rather than the exhaust.

The ZHP is generally considered to sound nice. Catless headers make a difference sound-wise but living in IL I doubt you'd be able to get away with them emissions-wise.

ZHP muffler won't give you pops and bangs but does give an excellent, refined sound. Also, remember it's much louder than you may think being inside the car. I was shocked how loud my ZHP muffler was my friend drove my car away and I was standing behind it.

Cheapo method is to just cut off the muffler...I believe XI the first resonator/muffler after the headers is smaller, but after deleting my muffler i get crackles and pops, bone stock otherwise.

I got a muffler delete right now but on cold starts theres baby crackles. I want straight pops and im not really worried about spending some money, but im also no trying to drop over a grand

You could still have the resonator box in the middle section cut off. Not a lot of videos on youtube and the audio isnt the same as in person but it's still a cheapo option. On the stock exhaust you have headers + cats, one muffler/resonator, 2nd muffler/resonator, 3rd muffler. Headers are kind of a pain and there's a lot of debate on whether they're as restrictive as many people think.

I think youd find catless straight pipe excessive. Try Dutton one off at a time after headers

bingo. I am convinced the ZHP is the best-sounding I6 BMW's ever put out. fight me irl

It's spot-on and never annoying to you or the neighbors and it is way louder than you'd think. Another guy @ work had one & drove by as I was getting out of my car one morning... thought 'damn that sounds pretty nice' before I even saw the car. Lo & beholde, another zhp.
