it's going to cost a few grande for them to swap the engine. there's a lot of labor involved in order to do this. it won't hurt you to get a few quotes.
my offer still stands. if you fly me out i'll help you tackle this. i want to visit cali soon (i've been before).
not sure of your mechanical knowledge or available tools/workplace though.

So my ballpark numbers were exactly what you were quoted from a shop. Of course, if OP DIY's the swap and gets a cheap engine (I've seen them on CL for $500) than yeah, he can do it for maybe around a grand. Doesn't mean it will be any good. I still would do as much refreshing as I could to be safe but that's just me. The car has 225K on it, in perfect shape it's worth maybe 4K. Even a cheap job at an indy shop will be close to that without extras.
