Sound Retention in Apartment

Just got my 1st apartment last saturday and received a (BS) noise complaint Tuesday.

I have a pretty open space ~725sf with wood floors throughout the unit except the bedroom.

When I come home from work, I listen to music, watch tv, etc through my speaker system. What are some "DIYs" that can help retain sound in my unit.

Turn the volume down.

Not a whole lot you can do in an apartment.

Hanging some thick blankets on the walls and turning the bass down is about it.

Wireless headphones.

Localize music to room you are in.

Talk to your neighbors and ask them to call you first.

BTW - bass is your problem. Low freq go further and through more objects like cars and walls. The also vibrate things more like vents and fixtures.

If you are serious about being there, then reduce your bass and spend a shitload on sound absorbing panels.
