What does "In Stock" really mean?

Question for the vendors out there - what does "In Stock" really mean on your site? I've had a couple of really bad experiences with one of the site sponsors that I normally buy from lately with delays in shipping, sending items that I had already cancelled, not letting me know for weeks that an item is back ordered, etc.

Maybe this is ignorant, but I have an expectation that when something says "In Stock" that it physically exists in your warehouse or a warehouse that you pull from, not that you "can get one in a couple of days" or will farm my order out to another vendor.

Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!
