Who here is running Bilstein B4's with stock sport springs?

I am refreshing my suspension (just did Powerflex FCABS and RTABS) and am now looking at new shocks/struts.

The price is right for Bilstein B4.

Do you like them? Were your shocks/struts blown and what did the car feel like after replacing them (with the Bilstein B4's)?

Honestly, I hate cheaping out on my car but I've already spent over $5k replacing everything else and I don't want to keep saving up for Koni Yellows or Bilstein HD's. My car is a daily and I have plenty of more parts to replace so an expensive suspension just hurts my wallet right now.

Will Bilstein B4's be fine (with stock sport springs) or should I just save up for Bilstein HD or Konis? (really don't want to do this but will if I have to)

I'm in the exact same boat and wondering the same thing... I'm at 165k and no records of shocks/struts being done and wondering how people like the B4s with sport springs.. Seem to be a great quality/price on paper.

They will be absolutely fine for a DD using stock sport OE springs. If you plan on doing any type of tracking or Auto-Xing in the next 2 years, save up for the Koni Sports.

EDIT: What's funny is I could get this job done (DD) by using a different set of name brand quality strut/shocks with a lifetime warranty for about ~$225 shipped.

Oops, I meant ~$225

I was in the same boat as well and did bought a pair of rear B4s. But different opinions keep telling me it'll be too soft so I'm selling them. I have no experience with B4s because my rears are stock and my fronts are Sachs super touring. Selling it here:

I am running Eibach pro-kit + Eibach sway bars and Bilstein B8s in my silver 330i and had a 2004 330i with sports suspension and new Bilstein B4s. While similar, the B4s and sports spring had a slight comfort advantage and the Eibach B8s handling advantage.

I would get Koni's. Check out my link in my sig if you want to save some money. Rob spoke with Koni the XI's versions will work just fine on a RWD car. Everything is the same back there.

If you want I have brand new OEM dust shield and bump stomps I could throw them into the mix for free. Just a heads up though if you do want them. I'm in the UK and won't be home until Jan 2nd.

Exactly what I wanted to hear, thanks. I think I'll go with the bilstein b4's. I'm at 136k on original shocks/struts so the b4's will be a massive improvement

I installed all four B4 and Eibach pro kit. After the replacement i couldn't believe what difference it made. Stock struts were really in bad shape.
For everyday and sporty road driving they perform very well, i would buy them again. If you plan to do many any trackdays, go for B6 or B8.
Of course it is important that the complete suspension is in good shape including all the bushings, and not only the struts/springs...

Thanks for the input guys, I'll update this thread in a few weeks once I buy the Bilstein B4's and install them. I'll leave my impressions so people who are considering the B4's and find this thread have something to read.

Hey, you ever get those B4's installed? I'm in a similar boat ('01 330Ci) looking to refresh my front/rear shocks and struts.

So I went ahead and installed the B4's on the rear with my OE sport springs, and so far the difference is night and day from the original 150k mile shocks. Ride height seems a little higher maybe, though the new shocks may still be settling and the old ones were completely collapsed.. Didn't get an exact measurement before the install, but I'll see about posting a height picture if anyone's really interested.

I replaced my worn out OEM struts with Bilstein B4s on my 2002 330 Ci coupe with sport suspension and 17" rims. I replaced everything except the springs.

I did not take any measurements or do a side by side comparison before I changed them, so I do not know if they are dimensionally different. Some of the increase probably came from the new rubber spring mounts and the increased gas pressure inside the new structs. But I didn't expect such a drastic increase in ride height.

When time allows, I am going to remove and inspect them to make sure I didn't assemble something wrong. I have done several strut replacements before, so I do not expect to find anything, but it pays to check.

I am considering lowering springs to get the ride height back to normal or lower.

Does anyone have the stock measurement from the ground or wheel center to the fender lip?

Me too original stock sport springs, and b4 sport shocks. Very pleased if I'm honest.

How could you tell your rears were bad. I recently pulled them out to replace the mounts and hand compressed them then took a look at the strut expand. It came out really slow. Is that normal? I replaced the OEM sachs with Sachs about 5 years ago.

When going over bumps i do get this hollow sound in the back. Could it be the shocks are not moving quick enough to absorb the bumps?

I'm in the market for new shocks and struts as well for my 325i with standard suspension. The car is not tracked, so comfort is of most importance with handling being second. I like to keep things stock so I may just stick with the stock sachs.
