Yea... they all kinda suck. But I need a new one for light-duty home use and Amazon reviews for the most popular inkjet and laser printers are all over the place. I definitely don't want to get wrangled into an ink replenishment scam like HP has.

Does anyone here have a printer that they think is at least reasonable in terms of quality and reliability?

Brother laser printer.

In all seriousness, it's the only printer I've ever had that I didn't want to go office space on. I have the all in one model with the doc feeder scanner and it works flawlessly and has for years. Only does b/w but I'd just print at work in the very rare occurrence I need color.

Laser printers are the way to go for B&W. They don't smear like inkjets.

Bought a Brother MFC-8220 for $5 at a garage sale back in '04. Still running with the OEM replacement cartridge.

I read about all the rage and got one too. black and white but it comes through everytime, even after months of not using it it still prints damn good.
I just print color here at work

A few years back, I switched myself and multiple family members over to Brother printers that run on toner.

My home office currently uses an MFC-L2740DW. Fast printing, seamless WiFi integration, scanning ability and even has a fax machine built in lol.

I have never (knock on wood) experienced an issue with a Brother printer, let alone had one fail.

Agree with rest of folks here. Go with a Brother laser printer. Had a wireless monochrome laser printer that worked great for years. Eventually upgraded to a multifunction laser printer/scanner/copier/fax for light-med home office use
