looking back at my reading list it looks like I read the first book but didn't think it was more than average at best so I didn't continue it.

Second season is going and holy **** does it get even better. If you're into sci fi and not watching this, you're missing out on a lot.

They are trying to get one of the streaming networks to pick it up. My guess is that someone will pretty soon. The big issue was with how the contract to air was set up.

Shows that get canceled on one network can get picked up by another. I guess it happens every once in a while. I was listening to a quick story on NPR while driving the other day and they mentioned several recently-canceled shows that are being shopped with high hopes of jumping to new networks (comparing them to free agents in pro sports). The Expanse was one of them.

Looks like The Expanse will be coming back on Amazon! Apparently Jeff Bezos is a huge fan and was pissed they didn't get the rights to begin with.

Quote:
The Hollywood Reporter says that Amazon is in talks to revive the series for a fourth season. And while the deal is not yet closed, there was this little acknowledgement from author/producer Daniel Abraham.

According to the report, Amazon’s CEO Jeff Bezos is a huge fan of The Expanse books and was “livid” when rival Syfy got the rights to make the show. Amazon later secured the streaming rights to the show.

Once the show was canceled earlier this month, the producers reportedly planned to shop it around to various other outlets. Whether or not that actually happened yet, or if Amazon just swooped in, is unknown. It’s also unknown if the huge outpouring of support from fans, which included flying banners over Amazon’s offices, had anything to do with it.

No matter, if things close, the result will be the same. The Expanse will be back.

When and if this deal is closed, and we find out when the show comes back, we’ll let you know. But for now, we’ll take full credit for this since we ran this article mere days ago.

If he's as personally invested as they say he is then this show could get a LOT more funding than syfy could ever hope to give it.

It takes a bit for the story to start rolling. Such is the case with anything based off of a book. Give it a few more episodes and you'll be hooked. I'm working through season 3 (not caught up yet) and this season is AWESOME.

I know they are completely different shows and picked up for different reasons, but could The Expanse go the way of The Grand Tour?

Sometimes too much freedom and production money can be a bad thing. Does anyone think they might fluff the show a little too much?

Show is based on a book so the storyline is basically set...

The Grand Tour is based on a book? Did they include the part where Jeremy Clarkson punched a production assistant in the face and got fired from the old book?

Duh. That's a key part of the narrative structure.
