Oil Leak and Burning Smell

Hi, I have a 2002 325i and I noticed some oil dripping onto a hose into the engine. I opened the oil cap and noticed some black sludge on it. I drove the car and then opened the cap again and this time white smoke came out and it smelled really bad like it was burning. I just had the head gasket replaced about 1500 miles ago. Any Ideas as to what this is? Below are some pictures of my problem. Thanks for the help.

I'm guessing that the valve cover gasket is leaking around the half-moon areas and oil is dripping onto the lower radiator hose. That's what happened to me. If you have a burning oil smell, the valve cover gasket is probably leaking near the back of the engine right over the exhaust manifold. I didn't replace my head gasket, but did replace my valve cover gasket. I had to put RTV all around the gasket to stop the oil leaks. It doesn't take much burning oil to make it smell bad and create smoke. Took me 3 times, with extra RTV on the 3rd attempt.

Chap above is spot on.

Likely the mechanic who did the head didn't use RTV on the half moons at the back. One of the things I like about the newer n52 engines - no more half moons.

Oil leaks there and drips onto your exhaust manifold, burning and is drawn into the cabin by the blower motor directly above.

About $50 to fix if you diy. Just use an elring gasket and avoid victor reinz.
