so what was the purpose of the Brexit vote, the illusion of choice?

I think the point is that Brexit means something different to different groups of people, as evidenced by May getting smacked around. Remember, most of the people who voted on the idea of Brexit weren't sure what it meant then.

The pro-Brexit folks must have hired Jonathan Gruber to manage their message.

I don't understand why any country will submit to a foreign group of overlords specially from Brussels...

Because in some respects its better for them from an economic aspect. A large part of what they were/are grappling with comes down to trade. Private groups along with branches of the UK government show that over the coming 10+ years the UK would grow at a slower pace if they were not an EU member. That plus the lack of a substantial plan about the Irish border is giving folks the jitters.

It was a very much a powerful choice. Unfortunately, it appears increasingly clear the Brexiters made a very, "hold my pint," bad one.

Is only good for the one party dictating the laws/regulations, as for the countries being subjugated I would guess not so much. One of the Brits point was not being able to fish their own territorial waters, it doesn't make sense to me.

Forget efficiency, jungle rules, I comes first. If you live in a mess up country, move, but don't throttle down my country's economy/productivity for social justice.

England has been totally out maneuvered by Europe's static position.

It was an inside job. May survived her no-confidence vote because she blundered the process.

Or perhaps that Brexit was just such a bad idea, doomed to fail on its own merits, that no MP could possibly salvage it. The whole idea was reflexive, flawed and doomed from the start.

Theresa May is basically in charge of the Titanic's deck chair committee.

What do you mean an inside job? May sabotaged herself?

She didn't sabotage herself if after loosing the worst vote in the history of Parliament managed to stay in power after the no-confidence vote. Imagine if the Trumpster submitted himself to a no-confidence vote, what would be the results? May did was she was told to do.

Most excellent commentary. It seems the US is not the only country ran by morons.
