No clown shoe, no care.

Someone is paying about $10k too much for that M3

Why is an E30 special? I thought this hipster trend had passed.

Holy shite that E38

Do E38's have car seat latch systems in the back? I'm in the market for a new sedan but kid duty is a must.

These things are are bulletproof as any other BMW made from this era. I'd say if you were in the market, maybe try to avoid any "state of the art for the time" electronics which might just be unavoidable in an E38. Also, the 740i v8 would serve you better maintenance wise than the 750 V12's.

Or you can just get a donor car and slap a supercharged S62 in there like this gentleman did, and manual convert it, ha!

This is basically the pinnacle BMW ever made and this guy literally made it brand new by what he has done to it, I'm in awe of it's amazingness. Wonder what it will sell for (and what's the reserve as there HAS to be a reserve on this beast).

The electronics is what scares me as this was the early days of "electronics" but the engines are probably fine. I'd for sure get the V8 just because a well maintained V12 is impossible to find and a poorly maintained one would bankrupt me. A S600 would be a different story though...those are bulletproof. We'll see, I need more of a truck/pack mule than a luxury car but that's a different problem.

I wouldn't worry about the electronics at all. My dad has been driving a 98 740il for the past 14 years and it has been nearly bulletproof. He got it with 60k miles on it and it has 198k now. Problems have been as follows...

Valley pan will leak coolant, I changed it myself, replaced some other coolant hoses and knock sensors when I was in there. Not a huge job but requires removal of the intake system.

Lost one window regulator in all that time.

Just replaced the cruise control module for $65.

MAF sensor quit a couple years ago, the car would randomly shut down while driving. Replaced that and it was good to go.

The biggest, and most expensive, issue has been the catalytic converters. They both went out and to replace them from BMW was going to run near $3,000. Which is a tough pill to swallow on a car that old. A local indy BMW shop found cats that would work for $1,500 and replaced them.

Other than that the damn thing has been bulletproof. No major engine work, absolutely zero transmission work. The interior looks just as good as the day he bought it, the seats hardly show any wear. It still drives smooth as glass. He is leaving tomorrow for a 2k mile road trip in it and has zero worries.

So if you want one, beware of the cats, and valley pan leak, and don't worry too much about the rest. My E46 was far worse than the 740 has ever been maintenance wise.

Now this white car, that is the pinnacle, I will definitely be following that auction.

I still want an E38 (V8, regular wheelbase) pretty bad

That build is insane

Evolved - I seriously doubt there is a Latch system on those....too early. I just use seatbelts in my E39, though I'm finally down to just 1 convertible car seat and 2 boosters. It is freaking tight in that back seat though, lol

Awesome, thanks! The challenge will be to find one that has actually been cared for. Finding a cared for example 14 years ago is much different than finding one now...

The one I linked above is LITERALLY bulletproof lol.

If it had the top deck anchor point I could swing it, but from what I'm seeing there are no anchor points at all. Our 4 year old is in a convertible and the 7mo old is still in the pumpkin so no anchor points at all would be a hard sell
