When the Soviets invaded Iceland in 1986, a USN P-3 tried to sink the MV Julius Fucik, which was carrying Soviet ground troops to Keflavik. The P-3 hit the ship with a Harpoon, but Fucik's captain had initiated a sharp turn, causing the ship to roll. The Harpoon hit just above the waterline, but when the ship came back to level, the hole from the missile was raised well above the waterline, preventing flooding that would certainly have sunk her otherwise.

In Tom Clancy's novel Red Storm Rising...

Seems like Japan has had a financial relationship with Iran in the past. Not sure if that would affect the way they portray with event or not.

There was a full soviet SAG approaching Iceland in Nov 1986 and a P-3 did turned them around... how you know?

Hmmm

“Experts noted the strange timing of the attack, which came as Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was meeting with Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, marking the first time in 40 years that a Japanese leader had visited Tehran. Coincidentally, one of the oil tankers targeted in the attack was Japanese-owned.”

Cui bono? Iran has ‘no reason’ to torpedo oil tankers in Gulf of Oman & ‘go to war’ https://www.rt.com/news/461873-iran-...man-blame-war/

This is a great "not my tanker, not my problem" opportunity

After this latest drone shoot down by the Iranians I don’t think Trump will let it go.

I wouldn’t be surprised if a few coastal AA batteries are taken out by F117s.

Ugh, it's like they're forcing his hand (if reported information is accurate). At some point you can't just ignore this stuff. I still think this should be Israel's problem, and they're the ones who should be taking care of it.

But the Supreme Leader Trump is now saying it must have been a mistake by Iran, I am sure Kushner will smooth this all out.

Since no human lives were lost wouldn’t that be the best outcome?

So which is it, Trump not letting it go and bombing them, or just a big mistake?

Are you asking me to predict the future?

I’ve already said that I think Trump will retaliate. I hope I’m wrong.

Is it plausible that they didn't know it was international airspace? I have no idea who determines these things. Again, Iran is the enemy but I'd still prefer to choke them out economically

Putin has basically drawn a line in the sand: “an attack on Iran would lead to catastrophe”.

That said I could see DoD pushing for a limited strike against their AA radars since they tried to stop us from overseeing the damaged ships.

A radar-seeking missile would do the trick next time they decide to paint one of our planes. They can’t fire a missile if they can’t see the target.

Remember the Navy guys who were arrested by Iran? They were way off course.

So I guess it’s possible our drone entered their airspace as well.
