85 MPH? That's cruising speed in the slow lane on the Turnpike here. You will get run off the road by little old ladies if you are going any slower.

That's posted "speed limit".

Supposed to be glassy smooth. Wife and luggage so have to contain my enthusiasm

85....lol. Last time me and a friend took are bikes from Chicago to GingerMan raceway in MI we were averaging 100 mph and staying with the flow of traffic.

Same goes for I-80 west after you pass I-55.

Maybe it's me, but it seems like going at least 10 over has become the norm the past few years. At least around the Chicago area.

Have you been out to Galena/Savanna IL? About 2 1/2 hours outside the city. I'm actually going out there this weekend. Glassy smooth, curvy roads. Great for out cars. Cops don't care how fast you go. Nobody out there so no one to bother and no chance of hitting another car. You should check it out

Cops don't bother stopping anyone unless you're doing 30mph over around here. I-355 is great, speed limit is now 70mph and there's a spot where a long ass smooth bridge with barely any traffic goes over a river where you can go 120mph+ like it's nothing (No place for the cops to hide).

Close to here

There are stretches of I15 in SW Utah where the limit is 80 mph. Nice wide open spaces with great visibility, decent surface.

Bah humbug, so much for the "Texas Autobahn"... Decent but not pristine highway with dips on both sides of bridges that could cause real issues. Near triple-digits for brief stretch but mostly cruised at 85mph because of load weight. No speed traps but did visit with locals about what I might be carrying following lunch stop.

Discovered thoroughly enjoyable return route, US-77. Corpus Christi to Waco before merging back onto I-35. Posted max of 75mph, some two lane stretches and small town stops but very smooth highway, nicely curved, light traffic, and improved scenery. Recommend drive for more leisurely cruise. Enjoy!
