I have stock height springs and the shocks are holding up just fine, but I don't put many miles on these days.

Hello,

My post is not about Bilstein but today I compared M3 E36 and E46xi rear shock absorbers, both OEM BMW Made in Germany. So if anyone is interested:
- M3 E36 Sachs part number 33522228415
- E46xi part number 33526752506
- E46xi total length is about 1cm less
- E46xi stem length/travel is about 3cm less
- E46xi tube diameter 38mm, E36 M3 tube diameter 45mm
- E46xi stem diameter 11mm, E36 M3 stem diameter 13mm
- I believe the thread of the stem was the same although I forget to check that 100%

Compressing the shocks by hand, E46xi seemed a little bit stiffer. They have about 100k km while the E36 M3 have about 10-20k km but I believe all are in good condition.
